Hi,
Quick question, are swordtails known for jumping out of their tank?? One of mine did when i left the lid off.

Also i have a neon tetra that is losing its colour. Any suggestions or explanations?

thanks.

Tell us more about the tank.
Tank size and fish (how many of each)
Water test results - Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH.
How long has the tank been set up?

There are a few reasons I can think of for the faded tetra/jumping sword, answers to the above will really help us.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

swordtails can, like most fish jump out of the tank, but along with the fading colour of your tetra, i would guess that there is an irritant in the tank which is making it more likely to display such behaviour. Some fish react to irritants by jumping , and often flicking against rocks, sometimes its parasites but often its the presence of ammonia. If it is ammonia it can kill fish quickly, so get checking it out asap.

a decent water change or two while youre trying to find the solution may help, unless your filter isnt performing properly, perhaps its worth running checks to see if the bacteria in your filter are surviving.Often people underestimate the time it can take for a filter to become mature, and people forget that tapwater will kill beneficial bacteria in the filter media, often they clean out the entire filter especially in internal filters, meaning that there isnt biological filtration for over 20 days, so make sure your cleaning routine isnt causing the problem.

I agree that there is most likely something awry in your tank and you should have it checked out asap. However, all the fish i've had jump other than my killifish were swordtails...

Nearly all fish can jump out of the tank & that's why you better keep the lid closed.
