I would take them back & get fish that's compatible with the ones you already have & that are not very aggressive.

Damn, I thought there was some way to automatically clean a big fish tank. I have a 79 gal, and I am 5 foot 1 and have to stand on a stool to clean it. How on earth do u clean ur 250 gallon tank?

3-6 balas would be perfect in that tank and school together nicely.

I have big problems with the maintance of my 130g as I'm only 5foot2 ! When I fist set it up I stood inside the tank, but now I have to get my bf to do it while I give instructions - left a bit mind the pleco - that kinda stuff.

Even with a step ladder if i try to bend from the waste I'd just fall in lol. I do love it.

Yeah, I'm surprised no one else brought up how big balas are...

Yup, in a big tank, you can keep a largish group of redtailed black sharks and they'll get along fine. The Zoo had a massive tank with guppies, clown loaches, salamanders, silver dollars, plecos and at least 7 RTBS. I stood and watched that tank numerous times, and never saw any fighting. The finnage always looked tiptop shape too. I was amazed and enlightened. Before witnessing this, I too had always thought of RTBS as loner fish. I looked it up on the net and confirmed they can be kept in a decent sized school if space permits. I say add a few more! (Balas get way too big, IMO.)

I would have to agree with most everyone else, take the two red tails and one of the rainbows back and trade them for a couple more balas because they are schoolers, and with only one rainbow you wont have to worry about anything that looks like it.

I know it's off task, but how in the heck do you clean that thing? I have trouble with my 125 being almost too high and occassionally have to stand on a chairor am I just way too shortor is your stand shorter than mine? like I said off task, but 36" tall yikes

Ok. I have a 250g tank. Up until now I had a african butterfly fish (named johnny.. He is my favorite fish I love em) and a dragon fish. I went to the pet store looking for some fish that would swim in the middle of the tank so It didnt look completly deserted. Now my lfs decided to hook me up with 2 rainbow sharks and 2 red tailed black sharks and a bala shark. They said they would get along great and wouldnt hurt each other. I just looked up there profiles and am terrified they gonna kill each other. What should I do????

I would trade the other sharks in and get enough for a school of balas. You have the room.

Definitely more than that. Probably an 8' tank. 6x2x2 is only 180g.

Rainbows/red tails do very well when kept in large enough groups - and you definitely have the tank space. Don't stop short at the 8-fish "minimum," though, I'd say - keep a dozen or so and they should have enough members to keep aggression on individuals to a minimum.
