now, i've always read that rtbs and rainbow sharks are solitary fish that will fight others of their kind, but are ok with other fish that don't look like them. personally, i would see if the lfs would take those sharks back in exchange for a couple balas instead.

The rainbows and RTBSs are territorial -- so long as you have caves and wood and plants that the fish can distinguish as each their own territory, you may be all right. The other option would be to actually to get a few more of each. I have read that problems occur may ben alleviated when there are more than enough to spread any aggression around. 6 or more seem to be the oft-quoted number.

you have a 250g tank. i wouldn't worry too much about it...unless you over stocked on these "sharks" then yes the rainbows and redtails will nip and chew on each other...they like to play tag a lot. balas i have never really had a problem with.
