I was cleaning my 55gallon this evening and almost sucked up a large red worm. It got away from the siphon and buried itself in the gravel. I gather from searching this site and the internet that it is some kind of nematode. I was just wondering if it is harmful or if it can live in the tank in peace. I have no idea where it came from. I have never seen it before and I haven't added anything to the tank in several months. I took it out and put it in a bowl just in case. I estimate it to be about 5-6 inches long.

Probably a bit late now, but I'd leave it. It looks way too big to be parasitic and I doubt it would eat fish.
