I believe Frontosa are peaceful are they not?
They are gorgeous! I dont know for sure, but I bet you could keep some clowns in with Fronts.

Jealous!

But great find. Yeah, you want to make sure the floor's sturdy enough to hold the filled tank; figure about 10 pounds per gallon plus rocks/decorations, substrate and fish... in an old house like mine, the basement's about the only floor that could hold it.

First things first, you want to make sure the seal is OK all around the tank, no matter how old. Nothing worse than planning a beautiful tank and there all the water goes out the seams.

Personally, I'd go Bala Sharks, but that's more or less because I can't find a tank that big and my boyfriend's still crying that he doesn't have them.

I agreee with shini considering most people's arm's are not much longer than 3 ft....
But I'd do stingrays, lots of them. (still ticked cause my ray tank idea didn't sit well with the mom)

Is the tank glass or acrylic? If its glass, how thick is the glass?

I'm with Shini - do a paludarium. Page through the ones that've been entered in the [link=AGA contest]http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.org" style="COLOR: #4040FF[/link] and you'll see how incredible they can be. Plus, they work for any setup, even saltwater (mangroves, etc). Personally I'd do a Tanganyikan paludarium, but that's just me. Ooh, a Frontosa paludarium, that'd be very very cool.

What a find. If it was me I'd get something that needed a tank that big. My choice would probably be Frontosas.

Wow getting lots of interest here ]. Frontosa were an idea i had but i believe they require certain water parameters to live healthy right? I also would want to move my existing clown loaches to it and maybe add a few more. Generally clown loaches will go fine with SA cichlids as far as i've noticed. WAs thinking of maybe oscar, jd, severum, and other possibilities. Could my clown loaches live with the fronts? Ugg must find a place to set up lol. Once again thanks guys keep the suggestions coming.

UK Gallons: 285.12

I did,

180cm
60cm
120cm

maybe,
4-6 angels
20 rummy nose tetras
10 platies
3 big shoals of cories
2 pleco's
2 mollies
2 lace gourmais

no fronts are rift lake fish, they require higher ph and hardness than most fish. Clowns, if anything are the exact opposite. They definitely won't go well together.

Theres also the rule of a fish can live in any ph as long as its stable. I don't know i probabally wont go fronts anyways mainly because of cost, would probly be over 20 dollars a fish and that would be cheap around here.

I'd be measuring the glass before deciding what to do with it. Under 3/4inch thick and I probably wouldn't fill it all the way up. The safety factor just wouldn't be high enough for me to sleep well at night.

Not sure where you heard that, but I can say that's false. I guess fish can live in certain conditions, but definitely not thrive. But, you're right about the price, tangs. are easily $20 around here, and probably much more for a front.

And be extremely careful where you put it. Anywhere other than your basement (and maybe not even your basement) would easily give under the weight. If it was 6'x4'x2', then it might be different because the weight is spread out. But, in your case, I'd make sure you have sturdy floors. Check with some DIY forums and maybe a contractor first.

fish can infact thrive in conditions that they wouldn't be in in the wild. The most important thing is stability. It is very easy to get the water up to where frontosa like it though. You can use crushed gravel, limestone, and buffers to adjust it. If want you can order tangs off the internet I averaged it out to 10$ a front including shipping off bluechipaquatics.com.

Exactly what i was saying This thing has been holding water before i got it , it was a reef tank before but now i plan on using it as fresh water. The seals all are fine, i would reseal the whole thing but i would probabally make it worse then better. I will of course inspect more closely when the time comes to set it up.

Clown Loaches and SA cichlids do great together. I've got seven Loaches, an Oscar, a Gold Severum and a Firemouth in a 75.

If you want some good color and size get malawi haps and peacocks. They are very active yet they have some size so the tank wouldn't look empty. I was originally going to get frontosa till I looked into malawi haps. There are some many different species and you could keep some of the big ones.
