Well not even neccessary larger fish, I'm just looking for in general good tetra tankmates. I'm not new to the fish hobby, I know all about the livebearers, dwarf gouramis, cories, a few dwarf cichlids, a few barbs but not all of them, you know, the general knowledge. What I'm really thinking is, what about the different types of gouramis, some medium sized cichlids, and some of the catfish out there. I wanna know what will work, and what will eat the crap out of tetras. Minimum tank size is not of importance right now, so as big as they'll get, as long as they won't eat the tetras. I'm thinking of the slimmer tetras, like neons and glowlites, not the wider bodied ones.

How about rummy nose tetras, the look great in a school. A pair of cherry barbs, or maybe a trio. Maybe some keyhole cichlids or a pair of rams (German or Bolivian) Gourami wise you could get : Dwarf, Red sunset, LACE also known as pearl or mosaic or snakeskin. As for bottom feeders if you dnt want cories you could get loaches Skunk and Zebra are interesting.

Just some suggestions (but not all of them in one tank.)

Hop this helps

If tank size is "not an issue" then my favorite tank setup I've had by far was the rodwayi and rummynose tetras with bala sharks and clown loaches. The gentle giants never bothered my tetras in the least bit and I actually ended up with a spawning

I like the sounds of the clown loaches and the sharks.

I thought snakeskin gouramis got pretty big and would make quick work of tetras?

And how bout more medium sized cichlids, like a festivum or something?

And would some certain catfish work, not the loaches or cories, but some kind of smaller typical "ugly" catfish.

Snakeskin gouramis are excellent fish for tanks with small tetras. I know the general rule is that if "a fish can fit in another fish's mouth, it will get eaten", but snakeskin gouramis are definitely the exception to the rule.

A few days ago I got a school of 13 small cardinal tetras for my tank, each fish about 1.5cm long, and immediately my 3.5" Betta pugnax shot out of the plants and ate one of them (and consequently got banned from the tank and is now living in a 10 gallon), but my snakeskin gourami is perfectly fine with them.

My snakeskin is about 7.5" long (body only), and has not even given a second glance at the cardinal tetras. He is easily big enough to eat the whole school of them if he wanted to, but it's just a cold hard fact that these gouramis do not eat other fish. My cardinal tetras swam right in front of the snakeskin gourami's face, and he just got nervous and backed away.

EDIT: And in the wild, snakeskin gouramis reach a foot long, but in captivity they normally grow only to about 8" long.

In my shark/loach/tetra tank were Raphaels. Not too ugly imo:

And if I'm not mistaken that raphael has a good-sized clown loach in his belly.

Wow he's fat...

Yeah I was pretty much leaning towards those kinds of catfish, I don't think they're ugly at all, but my girlfriend would

Synodontis eupterus seem to leave small fish alone. I had a few N. brichardi fry in a tank with my huge one (at a size easily swallowed, and they will be found in the same parts of the water), and they were not eaten. Syno eupterus seem to be really peaceful fish IME.
