I tried twice to get an answer on that one. Now that I've brought the topic up again, I've noticed him nipping at some of my brand new plants . Is this typical for them? Are certain plants targets for them? It was the dwarf sagittaria he was picking at. |

Of all the pictures I have seen of rainbows, I must say he most resembles the New Guinea. They yellowing in the caudal fin is just beginning to take place, even if it isn't evident in my pic. I see more than the pictures reveal because I can see him in different situations. My rainbow isn't quite mature yet so a few more months may really tell us if this is the fish. |

The lecastras (turquoise) usually have a blotchy black stripe on their caudal line. Whereas the tri has a solid line. Lets see if I can find some photos... A month or two at least, but you can bet I'll have pics. I just can't believe how smart this fish is. He is not "dumb" like the rasboras or white clouds who still don't recognize me after nearly 3 years . He is just glued to me when I sit near the tank, making eye contact with a look that says, "FOOD!!!!!!!!" |

I hope my sagitarria is ok. So far, that and my crypt willisii are still intact . I didn't realize they would do that. Actually, there is a horizontal black stripe that appears when I shut the tank light. The brightest colors come out then, and the black horizontal stripe can be seen from across the room - it is thick and striking. For whatever reason, he lightens up when the tank light is on, but gets brilliant when they are off. As I said above, I don't feel it is stress because he seems very relaxed, moving about, poking here and there and even staring at me. It's a mutual thing when I sit in front of the tank now that he is in there - we stare at each other. My white clouds and rasboras don't even recognize me, nor do my guppies or cories. But he definitely does. I put my finger against the glass and he follows it. Last edited by Cory_Di at 01-Apr-2005 22:26 |

Good luck trying to keep fine leaved plants in there... Bigger leaves are the only way to go.. i tried keeping some rotala indica and other fine leaved plants.. what a joke.. |

ACIDRAIN![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Moderator Posts: 3162 Kudos: 1381 Votes: 416 Registered: 14-Jan-2002 ![]() | They wont eat the plants like other fish that eat plants will. They just nip all over the place for food. Rainbows are one of the fish, that many planted tank owners prefer in their tanks. There is always a bigger fish... |

I've had him several months now and I don't know if he's done growing. (EDIT: He has been with me 5 months ba I keep saying he, but maybe it is a "she" since there isn't much striking color. The fish is much more vibrant when lighting is low. Cory_Di attached this image: ![]() Last edited by Cory_Di at 31-Mar-2005 07:54[/font] |

Do they have an austrlian native forum on this site? Speuter, though the owner of this site is from Australia, it is an international site. So, with the interest of keeping it a site for everyone around the world, as well as for every and all fish to be discussed, we do not have any "native" forums. As if we did, there would have to be one for every land around the world. There is always a bigger fish... |
