I ordered some frozen bloodworm on the net and they came today. The only problem was that my parents not knowing what they were put them inside. Now they're all thawed out. They were inside for about 4-5 hours at the most. Are they still good.

Are they cubes? If so, I leave my cubes out and then give them to my fish in cube form, after pressing it aganst the glass for about ten seconds. ^_^

I believe the question was are they still ok to feed after being left out for 3-4 hours, not how to feed them.

I would say they are alright if you re-froze them when you found them. That is just my opinion though without much knowledge of food safety or what might be in bloodworms.

I think that if you put them in the freezer, as soon as you found them, then they would be fine to feed them to your fish.

Refreezing once may be okay. Just dont let the food defrost over and over or it will spoil.

You can, in fact, thaw and refreeze the stuff several times. The bloodworms do get progressively smellier, however.

As long as the remaining unfrozen portion doesn't come in contact with air, it should be alright being refrozen for a bit.

The main thing with thawing and refreezing is freezer burn, which makes food distasteful.

If my mice thaw on the way home, I have to feed them right away. If I try to refreeze them, they get freezer burned and the snakes won't touch them.

If it was food for humans you "never" refreeze uncooked food. It breaks down as the bacteria has already set in.

Personally I would throw it out but that is up to you. I know I am very fussy especially with uncooked food once it reaches room temperature.

Think about this can you be 100% sure they are safe and free from any bacteria, and is it worth it incomparison to what damage it "could" do.

Bacteria is hardly a problem. They cannot continue to decompose the stuff at a fast enough pace once the worms are refrozen. Furthermore, generally, bloodworms are stored in airtight containers, each block with it's own separate, anaerobic grid, as such:

emersed in gelatin and kept in these airtight containers, freezer burn does not occur, as most fridges are not strong enough to blast-freeze.

not all frozen foods are packed in little cubes, a lot of them still come in flat packs. I still am working on my 32oz flat pack of frozen brine shrimp. I like the hikari flat packs, they're resealable and are in two seperate packs. The rate i go through it is no match for freezer burn.

No, I meant bloodworms specifically. The gelatin filled mixture is generally indivdually sealed, though again, not always.
