I just upgraded one of my tanks with a better filter. Both the old and the new filters have been running on the tank for a little over a week. When can I take the old filter off?

Hi,
Test your water. When the Ammonia reads zero and the
nitrites read zero, then remove the old filter.

I doubt you'll have any ammonia/nitrites if you're still running your old filter. Usually people give the new filter 2 weeks or so to populate before removing the old one.

I would wait a little longer than 2 weeks. 4 weeks should be good, you want to make sure the new filter can handle the load alone so I would wait a bit longer. I added a new filter to my 20g 6 weeks ago and I still haven't taken it off.
