I was wondering how hard it is to hatch and raise brine shrimp. I was looking at the kits they sell at Dr. Fosters & Smith ( http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=4445&Ntt=brine%20shrimp&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&N=2004&Nty=1 ) and I have an extra air pump (although it is very weak) and an empty 2 litre bottle. I would be planning on feeding the brine shrimp to smaller adult fish (bettas, tetras, and livebearers). Would I need to let the brine shrimp grow larger before feeding them to these types of fish? What do I feed the brine shrimp? Any info. is appreciated. Thanks in advance for replies!

When you hatch Brine shrimp it's usually for fry and you feed them right away. I don't think you could raise any quantity of brine shrimp to any size in a 2l bottle.

As for feeding them, I bet fish food crumbled up would work.

foster and smith sells artemia food made for feeding brine shrimp. Usually it's best to feed out the shrimp right after hatching because they lose alot of nutrional value as they grow.

I you want to feed Brine Shrimp to your fry & fish, all you have to do is, just hatch them in salt water & feed them after rinsing them in normal water.

you can buy a special hybrid type of brine shrimp called sea monkeys (complete kit for raising/breeding them and it includes a years supply of food for them)

In the uk they are very cheap (£3) for a basic set up kit.
I have two small tanks with seamonkeys in that i occasionally treat my fish with.
