Nearly all the small loaches (yoyos, queens, skunks, etc) would be fine with RTBSs as long as there is enough room and territory. What size is your tank?

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

I dont think most loaches are agressive, just boisterous... which might annoy the RTBS, just make sure you have more than sufficient floorspace/ground area territory

kuhli loaches are cool but i'm not sure if they would be eaten...

maybe yo-yo loaches, dwarf loaches, zebra loaches... not sure what else

I got slammed in another post for having A RTS and a loach in the same tank!!!!!

Please don't tell me know I can have them I'll be furious!!!!!!! I just gave the loach away because some FP members mad me feel terrible on keeping them both.

If they were wrong please get back ASAP

I might still be able to get that fish back!!!!!

That's because you were keeping a modesta and a RTBS in a 50 odd gallon tank.

can i ask what is a modesta?

i have yoyo's and a rtbs shark together and they get on just fine.

i really have never ever seen a shark be OVERLY aggresive to any fish, it might chase them away a few times each day but nothing worse than that.

B. modesta would not be a good choice unless you have a very large tank and are willing to keep just modesta (maybe other large fish as they grow) in it....They grow very big, about a foot long, are best kept in groups to limit aggression toward other fish, and like most other loaches they are very social with members of their own species and like a big group of buddies to hang out with. If I were going to keep them, I would probably go with a group of 8...8 loaches, each a foot long (and we all know how FAT loaches can get) is going to be a very big tank with some VERY impressive caves in it. based on what was posted on [link=Loaches Online]http://www.loaches.com/species_pages/botia_modesta.html" style="COLOR: #CAFB0B[/link], I would say B. modesta is semi-aggressive....note the post where someone went on a week's vacation to return and find all of the neons in the tank had been eaten.

B. modesta is one of those fish that pet shops will sell very small, when they still look cute, and not inform customers of the fish's eventual size and potential for aggression. They are often dyed and sold as "Blueberry Botias" but are also seen in other colours. So, people go into the store, buy this cute little neon blue/pink/green/orange, day-glo disco catfish. Eventually they find they have a tank with a very large and GRUMPY/lonely dull blue catfish and all of the fish that stayed small and cute have been eaten or killed out of hunger, boredom or frustration. So, for no fault of its own, the catfish is disposed of, either because it overgrows its own tank and is poisoned in its own waste, is "euthanized" (and I use this term very loosely) and takes a final trip down the porcelain highway, or is returned to the shop if it's lucky.

grr....]

anyway....enough ranting...loaches are best kept in groups of at the very least 3 or 4...Any of the smaller loaches that have already been mentioned would be great, they have very sweet and playful personalities, although they can sometimes be timid (especially if they're not kept in an adequately sized group). For more info on loaches, check out: [link=http://www.loaches.com]http://www.loaches.com" style="COLOR: #CAFB0B[/link]

Yo-yo loaches can be quite aggressive ... especially to new tankmates. Ive got a group of 5 that ive had for 3-4 years. Upon introducing 5 clown loaches that were about 3 inches long they killed them within a day (that was a costly mistake). During this time they were housed with Endlers, harlequins, BN's and cherry barbs. They ate all of the endler fry and constantly harassed they harlequins and cherry barbs until they died. The tank was then changed to a malawi tank. They harassed and bullied the A. Maisoni until they would just hide. So they got moved from the 90g to a 29g. The 29g was a feeder tank, where they again ate all of the guppy fry, and constantly chased the guppies til the point i was not getting any new drops. The females just kept holding. Finally ate the end of my rope i put them into an oscar/severum tank. The oscars chased them for 5 days and finally decided they werent dinner. Today I introduced 4-5 inch tinfoil barbs into the tank ... the loaches are back to their old tricks. Chasing them and actually pinning them into corners then darting in and out at them.

Ive seen the loaches when they are being playful and boisterous. This is not that behavior. And as far as being aggressive goes ... they will go up and steal worms that are hanging out of the oscars mouth. (Oscars is now singular).

Loaches are alot of fun to watch and quite comical ... however i would not suggest that anyone get specifically yo-yos because they are "peaceful".

I also watched them go to war with a group of 15 full size tiger barbs when they were in a 55g.

Sorry about spelling errors ... new keyboard.

Bdadawg

EDIT: Forgot to mention that it is not due to lack of feeding or caves. They are fed 2 times a day with sinking pellets , shrimp pellets, and earthworm pellets. Frozen BBS every 3rd day. As far as hiding places ... there is a 3ft chucnk of driftwood that usually follows them ... holes have been specifically rilled into it to give numerous hiding places, there is also 3 other chunks of driftwood, along with a resin cave and 3 clay caves. They even harass a 13" regular pleco that resides with them.
