I used to keep a pair of honey gouramis in a 10g without problems.

Cherry barbs have nice color and don't have to be in schools. You could have 2 pairs in your 10g.

A couple of small Rams, you can also do some types of Killifish, Dwarf Gourami.

I would not put a single Electric Yellow in a 10G

you could really only do like 3 puffers in a 10 gallon. You could do more but they will get really nippy with eachother.

I have an empty 10 gal with a bunch of water sprite, floating and planted.I am really looking for a fish that would be good by itself.Or maybe even a pair of something. No bettas.I have enough of them.I was kind of thinking of some kind of gourami or maybe a ram or 2.I had glowlights and cories in there, but they have been moved to my 29.I want to try and stay away from livebearers.Any suggestions? I should add that I am really not intrested in puffers.

I would get a ram or a pair of rams. You may be able to
get them to breed if you get a male and a female. I think it would look really nice espicailly if you could plant it will make the tank come alive and give the rams some great color.

bolivian rams r also nice a bit larger then the blue ram altho to me not as attractive but they r still an amzing looking fish i have a pair in my 10g planted n there awesume to watch altho they r cichlids they dont require the higher ph
im sure u no bout german blues as u mention but there is a gold versoin that i noticed to b alot more timid then the natural colours
kribs are nice looking fish that r active n can b quite colourful easire to tell male from female
the size of ur tank does limit the fish u can have
gouramis arent all that hard to keep if u keep up good water conditions
ive kept several spieces but in larger tanks however dwarf gouramies a pair wood b good in a 10 but i may suggest a m/f pair some other apistos may interest u but im not familiar with those good luck

i vote a pair of rams. the one you had must have been pretty agressive! I've never had a problem with my rams aside from minor territorial disputes, maybe you just got a "bad" one.

I'm not into cichlids as a whole due to the high ph requirements. My tank is usually around 7.0 to 7.2 . My girlfriend really likes rams.I am not a huge fan of german rams due to the fact I had 1 about 6 years ago and it killed most of my guppies that I had in the tank.So much for being peaceful.Anyway everything I like seems to be hard to take care of.I really like all types of gourami, but between what I have read and what people have told me they are actually a hard fish to keep.I have never had any.I do keep up with my water changes every week and stuff.I have a couple good schools of tetra in the 29 so that's why I really dont want a schooling fish.Another thing is I don't want to change the setup I have.I was intrested in shell dwellers, but I don't want sand,or the hassel of finding the right shells.

electric yellows don't make good fish for a ten gallon...i personally would never put them in anything smaller than a 29 gallon. They get way too big and require much more room.

If you're interested in cichlids, i'd probably recommend a male/female pair of Kribensis cichlids. They stay quite small and do great in pairs.

I was actually looking at the electric yellow. But from everything I have seen it likes to be in atleast pairs. But I will continue to follow up on it.As for swordtails, like I said I really don't want livebearers.I have bought swordtails for my girlfriend and we just cannot get them to stay alive.Same with mollies.I have 4 platy's in the 29 and they are doing great.Just for some reason we have problems with mollies and swords.

Two definite options come to mind for me. I think your tank would look good with 2 or 3 bright colored swordtails. They are fun fish to have, ones that i found to be quite hardy and that were always active. They're cool to watch swim with their extra tail flowing through the water.
Another option you might have is an electric yellow as a single fish. When full grown, and if healthy, these are one of the brightest freshwater fishes you can own. They are not the most active of fish, however, they are quite active for a cichlid. These fish too are hardy and at 5 inches max size, are about the biggest fish you can comfortably put in a 10 gallon. Hope this helps!
