They can take a dive quickly without knowing it! You should probably think about gettign rid of some of your livebearers and add to your tetras. Also the bottom feeders prefer groups of ATLEAST 6 so you should probably find a new home for them because they need more room than a 10 gallon tank could give them. That is unless that is all you had in the tank. Even then 5 corys would be completely stocked. I wish you the best of luck with your tank though, and welcome to FP! Christina |

Everything else needs a bigger tank. A 20g would be good, but a 30g would be even better. Platies and mollies need to be in a bigger tank (unless you had 2 or 3 in there only). They will have babies and overcrowd the tank even more. If your bottom feeders are cories..they need friends and a bigger tank. A 10g is really only a good home for a small school of neons and a centerpiece of a betta or a dwarf gourami. Everything else really needs a bigger tank. I learned the hard way about small tanks crashing. I had 8 neons, a betta, and 2 ottos in my 10g and started having 3ppm of ammonia. Everyone made it except for one neon, but I am now upgrading to a 29g for the neons. 10g are great to start with, but won't hold all your fish without causing some major issues (ammonia, lots of waste). Eventually you are going to have problems and may lose most or all of your fish. |

Bottom feeding fish tend to produce more waste than the average fish. Also, do you know what kind of fish they are? They could stay as small as two inches or grow to over a foot. I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

I think you are doing what all new to fish keeping are doing. Going to your new found LFS and cannot resist a pretty fish. It is obvious that you LFS is not advising you very well as how many and what to put into that small 10g tank. I also agree you will have to go bigger if you intend to keep all those fish happy and healthy. Your next step should be a larger tank with live plants this will help to keep your water and fish healthy. You question here would be what size. The answer is big as you possibly can and have the space and time to look after it. Remember a large tank is far easy to look after than a small 10g Sorry to be so hard on you but I personally would rather be honest than give you wrong advice or not answer you posting. Have a look at my links and I think you will see I have had plenty of experience as fish keeping. Try to get a bigger tank & your fish will be more happy. ![]() http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.deathbydyeing.org/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
