will i need a bigger tank or will a M&F pair of sunset dwarf gouramis be peacefull and generally happy in a 29 tall with 1 bolivian ram,7 corys, and 6 lemon tetras?

ram stays on the bottom never goes higher than 10" of 22" tank, the tetras only go above the 16" mark on the tank if its feeding time, they ussually just wait for their food to sink, and the single male gourami i just bought stays to the top mostly, occasionaly going lower, but never has any problems with any of the tankmates, doesnt even bicker with the ram over food.

will i need a larger tank? everyone tells me the male needs a female companion to be happy, and a local breeder can get me a female

input please...whats the minimum tank size to keep the pair from chasing or beating up the tanks occupants?

reun,

I recently had the pleasure of having 2 Pearl Gouramies (juveniles) in my 20G Long QT, one male and one female. Neither nor was aggressive towards the other fish species in the tank, platies of varying ages, but the male chased the female into a corner for most of the day. I am not certain if this is because of the age, but it for sure is tank size related (surface area of 12x30). As soon as I added the 2 into the 125G they hang out for most of the day together now.

I would say it is a gamble. You can get lucky and they get along well, or you might have an intimidated female that will hide in the corner. The fact that the male already made this tank his home can also be a problem.

Hope this helps a little,

Ingo

well, the tank will be reset up if i keep the 29 gallon, i will be rescaping the whole thing, so he wont have any territoy established.

now, these are small gourami, still, i dunno how much space they will need....will a 29 be enough? if not, would a 40 be enough? this male sunset dwarf gourami has not shown any territorial agression in the last few days, he actually is the most shy fish i have ever had...even more reclusive than my SA Bumblebee catfish.

i really doubt agression would be a problem...but then again you never know i guess. anyone have any suggestions?
