Ok, i've decided that i want a bigger tank and am looking into getting a 55 gallon freshwater tank. I want an eye-catching display for my living room. Can anyone recommend some good setups for a 55? What numbers/species would fill out all levels of the tank? I have a ph of 7.5. and will probably do artificial plants with some low-light plants such as Java Fern along with rocks and driftwood. Thanks!!!

How about an Asian tank? Some sort of larger gourami (pearl, moonlight, etc), a large school of harlequin rasboras, a pair or two of cherry barbs (they do well in pairs and have great color), kuhli or yo-yo loaches for the bottom. Then cheat a bit on the theme also add a BN for algae control.

edit: if you're interested in cichlids, Cichlid-forum.com has cookie-cutter setups for a 55g here.

Go with an asian theme like Theresa said. These fish never get there full respect. There always outcompeted by the south americans.

Eye catching you say? Nothing catches the eye like 35 tiger barbs traversing the tank in unison

a center tank would be nice with angels, and a 55 high is even better, they should be ok in 7.5 ph due to there wide avalibality in the hobby.

I am way into Cherry Barbs ATM! .... also the Mickey Mouse platys for added character!!

some Tiger Barbs and cats would be neat too.
