I would like to see a list of common fish medications and how they impact the beneficial bacteria in your tank.

If anyone has input on this, please let me know. I'm sure this would be VERY helpful for many aspiring fishkeepers.

If anyone out there feels like doing some experimenting, I would love to hear about the results.

I feel this is important, because it is often fairly easy to diagnose fish diseases, however, treating them can be difficult.

It seems like you treat one problem, and your tank goes out of cycle, and so you end up creating another problem, because your ammonia levels are now high. Unless you really know what to do, using meds can be difficult.

It would be nice to know what medications can be used to treat the many different fish diseases, that are safe for your beneficial bacteria.

Your best friend would be doing a yahoo search... Its too much information what you ask for.

Look at the right top icon of FISHPROFILES AQUARANK and click it, then visit the websites on the list. Usually every site has information about diseases, etc.

You'll get bored before even read half of the information... there's a lot! There are even human medications that are very very effective against fish disease but, the best time to learn is NOW, but when you really know, diagnose and treat a disease is with practice, just when your fish get sick.

Some medications are very cheap, some stain the silicone, others thrash the biologic filter... some are capsules, others are powder or liquids...

Too much to ask but Google is your little best friend. Read and learn about disease is your best friend when our fish get sick.

Don't know about a whole list but I use Melafix for a lot of minor treatments and it has no effect on the bacteria, and i occassionally use salt, but it's used in a hospital tank where water changes are constant usually, so there isn't much of a bacteria filter going...hml

I think we had a list that had a few of common meds, their active ingredients and such somewhere. If I find it i'll get back to you.
