I've seen these lights that are meant to be the same as moon light and allow us to view the fish after the main lights have gone off.

Has anybody got these? do they work as they should? look good?

most of the adverts i've seen show them on reef tanks, can they be used on freshwater aquariums?

Anybody got pictures?

cheers shekoi.

Shekoi,

Here is a link to a site for a DIY moon lighting project.

I have no personal experience with moon lighting, but thought this might prove of some interest to you

We just went over this lol... But I have them in my tanks. no pics as of right now. but yea you can see the fish at night, and depending on how high you mount them above the water, you can see the rippling of the waves on the tank bottom. but i do recommend them to people.

and also i have found out and have been told by others that this helps with the fish when you turn on the tank lights and doesnt "shock them" by going from either no light or room light only to fully lit up.

myself, i purchased kits from pet stores. but am thinking about trying one of the DYI kits for my next tank.

cheers all

i haven't got time for building my own, as the links show i've seen a LED kit for £30, but also see these blue moon blubs, would one of these work for my 24in deep tank, ran on a normal starter like the bulbs i already have.

if so this would be a lot simpler for me.

My 55g came with one of these, previously being a reef tank, and now I have 2 in the 55g and one in the 30g. I want them in the two 10's, but don't kno how it will affect the plants.

These lights are great. It took my Syno a bit to get used to it, but now he goes through the beams and looks awesome.

Mine were very easy to set up... there's just a small round plastic "box" that can clip anywhere. I have mine over glass with the light strips. They were about $20 a piece, but I'm sure you can find them elsewhere for cheaper. If you have a larger tank, I'd suggest buying a strip or DIY.

got the blue moon blub form LFS it's 25W 30", but i've decided it's too bright, looks like blue sunlight not moon light. i've know ordered a led kit of the net, it should be here early next week.

Question: would it be ok for plants/fish to run the moon light with my daylight blubs? it gives the neon rainbows a great colour.

bulb is a interpet 25W and wavelengh range of between 400-500nm, this is the only info i have on it.

Cheers shekoi

ps. i'll post photos of tank with led's when i get them.

I just got some for my three five gallons that are next to eachother. They do look very niee. i got them off eBay and they have a dimmer switch so you can alternate the intensity of the light with the acutal moon cycle.. It doesn't seem to bother my fish. I like to see them sleep and move around at night...
