kj fishy-finn![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Big Fish Posts: 385 Kudos: 200 Registered: 21-Jan-2004 ![]() | well my fry from other batches have never lasted long and they end up all dying young i have only 2 fry from my like 3-4 batches from fish and they are my platy and guppy(which is a 3rd generation survivor). i know you may not have been rude but it did sound that way. no offense. i guess the angelfish are fine then and will not move but i do want to get a little like 5-12 gallon tank to have on my dresser or something and have like guppies or platies in. like a whole entire family of them. survival of the fittest. but do you have any other suggestions for any other fish that could go in a 5 gallon, possibly 12 that would be fun to have. and could live on their own as a possibility with another clown pleco. kj fishy-finn <*)))>< 20 Gallon Album 5 Gallon Album |
katieb![]() Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 ![]() | I cant see them. I highly reccomend buying a the tank and hood separate. All Glass Aquarium is a good brand. Kits can be way over-priced for their size. As for gouramis, Dwarves, honeys, and sparking are good small species. Beware male dwarves have the same temperment as male bettas. Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 ![]() | Here is more information on kudos, post counts, and aquarank: [link=Kudos Link]http://fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Site%20Feedback/47803.html?200506092325" style="COLOR: #FF1493[/link] As has been said the 5 gallon is really small They make it really hard to keep any decent water parameters in, and usually cost as much as a 10 gallon, so my advice is to forget the 5 gallon and at least go with a 10 gallonNow as for adding bettas to the tank, keep this in mind...you can only put 1 male betta in a tank, and it is usually the only fish that can be in the tank, unless you set up a system of dividers...Most male bettas are a bit territorial side, as in: Oh look there is someone else in my tank, I better kill it, there much better now I'm all alone again... This isn't always true, some male bettas get along well with others, and there are always exceptions...If you get the 10 gallon then there is the option of being able to get 3-4 female bettas to put in it, just be sure that they have plenty of room to hide incase you end up with one that is a bit on the psychotic stage who wants to fight everyone else involved...this will give the other girls a place to hide and not get as injured, while you are trying to get her out to another tank... Hopefully this helps...when you do go with the 10 gallon tank, you can always buy or create your own divider and then keep 2 males, 1 on each side, in this tank, or make it smaller on one side, 1 male, and 2 females...if you do either of these ideas then be sure the divider goes up to the hood, and don't fill the tank all the way up, but leave about 3-4 inches from the top, so noone decides to jump the divider ![]() Good luck, heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." katieb![]() Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 ![]() | 20 gallons is different from a 20 gallon high tank. The 20 gallon is longer. (Im assuming your referring to the 5 gal) Bettas would work, one male or a 2 females. However, females can be aggressive so it really depends on their personas. Im not experienced with having mulitple females, so if you decide that route...check with the Advanced Betta Care forum first. If you want tank mates an applesnail or some african dwarf frogs are good choices. Aquarank is determined by how many times you vote here Kudos are points awarded for helpful replys, or something of that nature. katieb![]() Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 ![]() | I have a 5 gallon and they really arent that big. I wouldnt reccomend a clown in anything less then a 10. And there isnt any fish that would fit in a 5 gal if you had 12 of them. There are however, species of shrimp that are small and pretty nice looking that could go in a five in fairly large numbers. If you go with a 10-12 gallon on your dresser, id do a trio of platys or guppies. Both species would make the tank pretty cramped, especially if you want some of the fry to grow up there too. I really hope your angels get a good sized tank, they are absolutely fuul grown. ![]() I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

katieb![]() Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 ![]() | I wasnt being rude, I apologize if it sounded that way. Im not sure how long it takes an angel to reach full size, however a fish put in a tank too small will stunt(Insides continue to grow, while the skeleton does not) and die young. Thats why it is reccomended that one puts a fish into a tank that it can live in when it is full grown, so as not to risk stunting. Also, if you end up having a pair, you will want to take into account the possibility of fry. I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

katieb![]() Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 ![]() | "the LFS said that the 2 angelfish would be fine in my tank and they are some different type that doesnt get big. maybe bred to be smaller??? they are only up to 1.5 to 1 in long now. i do not think they will get much bigger." There are only 2 angelfish species that are usually seen on the market: P.Scalare and P.Altum. Your 2 angels are P.Scalare and will get 10 inches tall and 6 inches long...there is no dwarf species. The angels need at least a 20 gallon High tank, and the other fish need a tank somewhere in the 20-30 gallon range. These fish need to stay in schools of at least 6, Bandit Corydoras & Cardinal Tetra's. Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 ![]() | First what size of tank are these fish in? That said, each betta is totally different, I have one male who is currently in a tank with a Fancy guppy, and Female Guppy Fry (don't ask ok) and he hasn't eaten the fry, and pretty much acts like the caregiver of the tank with the neons, glolights, harlies, corries, clown loaches, cory fry, bn, and whatever else is in there he even enjoyed having Psycho my female betta in there So please keep in mind each betta is totally different, and of course that is a 125 gallon tank so he has plenty of room for his own![]() Now, as has been said, no an Angel does not belong in a 5 gallon, unless it is a fry, and that would only be temperary at best... As for the rest of your fish, depending on the size of the tank, here are my thoughts ![]() 2 small marble blushing angelfish--as said needs at least a 20 high or larger is better ![]() 1 bandit corydora--desperately needs some friends, even if they aren't me ![]() 1 clown plecostomus--no advice I don't know clown plecos, 1 platy--you should be ok ![]() 1 guppy--again you should be ok ![]() 1 cardinal tetra--needs to be in a school of 6 or more...and really the more the better ![]() those are just my suggestions, use them or ignore them...your choice of course, heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom."
