Hi all,

I need to move my four footer as I have pulled up the carpet in the loungeroom to find beautiful 30 year old floorboards.( Yes, I did cut around the fish tank!!)

I want to polish and oil those floorboards so will have to move the tank to another part of the house for at least a week.

Are there any pitfalls that I should be aware of? I intend on doing a massive clean-up of the tank during the move including removing the gravel and cleaning the under-gravel filter plates of all mulm. I do not have a spare tank, so I need to have each step organised to reduce stress on both me and the fish!!

I look forward to any advice put forward.

Thanks
Rob

Shifting the tank and resetting it twice is the least of your concerns.

The biggest problem will be all the fumes/dust from the resurfacing the floor boards and the fumes that will linger in the room for a while.

Have plenty of ventalation for your self and in the area where the tank will be while all the work is being done.

You will want to use an oil based finish on the floors for durability. Don't get brain damage from the fumes, hire someone to do it ;-) A good contractor will use 3 coats. We just had ours done. The vibration from the sander, shook the bulbs out of our lights in the basement. It is severe--I bet the fish will be stressed from it. The fumes for two weeks are very strong. The dust is very fine and gets everywhere. We moved out for two weeks, or you will get headaches. And your fish will die I think. I took my fish and crab with us to my mom's place. It was no fun at all but had to be done.
