Everything seems fine except for your catfish and Black Shark. Black Sharks get MASSIVE in length and width. So be careful as he gets large...he will dominate that tank and will need to move on. And when you say catfish, what catfish do you mean?

I'm worried about the catfish, is it a type of Corydoras? (Corry?) If so he will need some buddies like 5 more of them, take the shark back and get some more of the same species of corries, and they will be performing all sorts of antics for you

Otherwise, I didn't mean to be ugly, hope you enjoy the tank...heidi

well, i went and got some fish. Here is what i got:
6 some sort of rasboras..grey in color with silver and black stripes down their bodies.
7 tiger barbs
3 albino frogs
2 catfish
1 black shark
3 blue gouramis
1 bonus guppy
1 bonus snail
i talked to the man at the pet store and he said peacock eels don't usually mess with anything. He was out swimming early this morning and didn't seem to bother any of them. The only thing I am noticing is that the shark is definitly trying to dominate the tank. The store owner said he would take my tinfoil barb in for trade when he gets too large, or i notice him eating the others. I am so please with my tank now. There is so much life and excitement in there. So far so good! I know it usually takes a few days for things to get sick or start dying. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this time and hoping i have everything right. The lfs tested my water and said everything looked great!! i'm so excited!! thanks for all your help and support!!!
GOT NEW FISHIES!!!

Just make sure thefrogs don`t eat your fish, the black lancer should be fine in the tank and just feed food at day and night, eventually the lancer will become less timid and come out during day for food but feed at night as well. He should just grow up and become the star of the tank, watch other fish doesn`t nip the massive fin as being so big, it is very easy to nip

Good Luck and enjoy the Black Lancer, I know I am enjoying mine

[edit] find out the phone number and adress of the LFS for cup of lifenoodles Hopefully they may have some left

Thank you PERKY!!! THIS IS MY "BLACK SHARK"!!!!
I knew it looked like a catfish. He is not really aggressive at all, that was the wrong word. He chases my tf barb all around the tank and nips at him all the time. He does not mess with any of the other fish. So, is it ok to keep him? I feel so much better already. This is an obscure fish??? How in the world did i find him in Tifton Georgia???
I have been checking ammonia and nitrite levels and everything is good so far. I did a 25% H2O change tonight and everyone is swimming around like crazy. The frogs are out , even the algae eaters!!! i'm enjoying this so much! Thanks for the input and helping me figure out I don't have a MONSTER in my tank!!!

Damn you, Perk.

I have literally gone across the county searching for one of my all time favorite old world cats (not that I've ever owned a black lancer, but a guy can dream, can't he?).

It is probably either the Asian Upside Down or another species of Bagridae, I think of Black Lancer a lot as they have very high dorsals and blue eyes but then they are not aggresive. It is probably the Asian Upside Down.

Black Lancer just to eliminate

By the way, if it is Black Lancer I would suggest either keep it or mention it to people on this site as I know a few people who would like one but haven`t been able to find one at LFS, I think Shinigami is one.

I`m a lucky one and have one which is doing fine in my 55g

Hmm. No scales? And sold as a Black Shark? That worries me even more.

Scroll down this page until you hit Pangasius sutchi.

This fish is usually sold as an Iridescent Shark, but thanks to its principally dark colouration, it has occasionally been sold (wrongly) as a Black Shark. Can also be sold as a Shark Catfish.

If your fish is this one, then return it FAST. 5 inches?? Oh, ha ha ha ha ha. Pangasius catfishes are big boys from the Mekong River in Laos, and can reach 3 feet with ease. In their native home, they're a food fish. Your LFS needs educating with a pointy stick.

As for your Corys, regardless of what species they are, they should be in a group. Ideally 6 minimum. If you remove some of the big boys from that inventory list of yours, then you can have 12 with ease. And enjoy LOTS of fun as those guys scoot around the aquarium full of the joys of life. Ask Heidi. She has a group and they are almost as nutty as my Pandas!

The black shark that i got looks kinda like this, but he does not have scales. He is smooth and kind of looks like a catfish. The pet store owner said he will only get to about 5 inches in length??? I hope I have not gotten another fish that i have to take back. I did put all the fish in at once!!! Man, I just can't win for losing!! I did so much research this time and thought I was prepared..:#( The catfish look like salt and pepper cats, i think that's what the profile on here said. Do they need 5 or 6 to be happy. The lfs said that two would be plenty...???? Every one seems fine right now and the ammonia level has stayed good. When should the spike happen? Should I do my 25% water changes every other day to three days for awhile? I got something called stress zyme and used it to help with the bacteria, and i use start right for water conditioning...let me know please!
