Wow, that was a good deal. What are you going to stock it with?

I'm planning on doing a south american dwarf cichlid tank. Unfortunately, I am unable to begin setting it up until after the first of the year.

Are you going to put some live plants in there? How many watts of light do you have?

For the fishes comfort and health i do plan to use live plants. As for he wattage, the bulbs that are in it are actually broken. In fact the hood itself isn't in great condition and I'll probably just replace the whole thing. When i do this i'll buy some higher wattage bulbs.

My current plan of attack for this tank is to replace any parts that i don't think are functioning optimally. Once i'm actually able to set it up, I plan to let the plants get established and cycle the tank with 10-12 pristella tetras. I'll seed the biological system with water and gravel from my established 10 gallon tank. Once the cycling is finished, i'll be able to transfer my pair of altispinosa. No need to tell me; I know they should be kept in at least 20 gallons/pair. They were a mercy save from someones extremely overstocked tank. They have gotten much healthier since i acquired them and seem to be fine. In fact they have been spawning in their current environment.
After all this is done, i'll look into adding other fish.

Good find

However, eject that UGF out of a window on the highest floor of your building, run down the stairs and smash it with a sledgehammer, run it over with a large vehicle, and set the remaining bits on fire

Good find. Don't forget to check the tank for leaks.

I concur. Any bio filter supplement can easily be replaced with a nice biosponge attached to a filter intake. You won't get any plantage with that UGF there, anyhow.

I agree about the UGF. I wasn't planning on using it. It was just included in the package deal..
