hey just wondering if anyone in here has ever done a native species tank such as Bass, Bluegill, Trout, Channel Cats?
i've been wanting to do one for a long time now and was wondering if anyone else has tried it and any suggestions on it?

Some of those fish get huge (i.e. channel cats)... one of the reasons they're not generally kept. However, I was just going through some back issues of Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine and one of the features was native fish tanks. Lemme go fetch the magazine...

...

Okay, I checked out a bunch of back copies of the magazine from my local library... If you can, get your hands on a copy of July 2003... the entire magazine is focussed on native species. Articles include: "Made in America", "Native Fish Collecting Techniques and Regulations", "Store bought Natives", "Florida, Collectors' Paradise", Native Fish Conservation: From Hobbyist to Professional" and "North American Killifishes". It was quite a fun read.

my mom is a teacher and has a 75g with 2 yellow perch 1 bluegill, 1 pumpkinseed, 1 black crappie and 2 red breast sunfish.

All of the fish are trained on pellets. Though she does give them night crawlers every now and then.

Oooh kitten! I would love to get my hands on that issue! When I was in the Everglades I kept looking over the side of the airboat just WISHING I had a net! Made me want to set up a tank real bad to keep some of those little beauties! I did find a website that listed quite a few of them. Some VERY pretty and also very small fish hanging around out there!
