It is from India, and reaches a size of about 3 to 3.5 inches. Likes warmer water (76 degrees F or above). The males are larger than the females, and more brightly colored. A very peaceful fish. Resides in the middle-to-lower water zones in the aquarium. Best kept in a species tank or a very peaceful community tank. Likes dim lighting and a lot of plants. Likes soft, acidic water. A shy fish, so hiding spots are required. Roots, caves, rocks, etc. work well for this. Can be kept in either pairs or small groups in a larger tank. It spawns in one of the hiding spots (like a flowerpot, for example). The male will guard the eggs until they hatch (about three days later), at which point the parents should be removed. The fry, once free-swimming, can be fed on rotifers and nauplii. HTH. Joe Potato ![]() Edit: Spelling. Last edited by Joe Potato at 16-Feb-2005 09:09 |
