Your would be way over stocked with that list. Even after you dumped the pleco. Golds do not belong in a tank with other Trops. They are very messy, they get really big, and need dif water conditions. I would not keep the shark with a RTB. You risk aggression issues. Dojo loaches, get big and are EXTREMELY messy eater. Half the food he eats gets squirted outa his gills. Guppies multiply. Sorry, I wouldn't put most of those fish in a 29 even at a young age. |

The Pleco & the Red Tail Shark will get too big & the 3 Fancy Golds, are cold water fish. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/album?.dir=b5f2 http://www.deathbydyeing.org/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

angeleel![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 561 Kudos: 472 Votes: 61 Registered: 08-Feb-2005 ![]() | I can't belive I had neons in the same list with angelfish lol.... As for the RTB and RTS they have been tankmates in a larger tank for a while now, they dont mind each other at all, The weather loach came with the tank when I bought it three years ago, And very weird but he is very happy by him self (other fish in tank) he likes floating decor fish he has about 5 or 6 and plays with them all day he is a very healthy very fast growing loach, the vet that he seen when he jumped out of a tank last year said it was the healthyist she had seen in years and years Fancy Golds will be out when the ground isn't frozen, into an outdoor pond. Its winter now always bring them in. Guppys there is only 3 males and a couple fry I use these for feeders, so they wouldn't be in there for long. But I understand now that I look at the list, and call me crazy for the neons, I deserve it lol I didn't realize I had put them there. I think I may have messed up that question more then I thought, here I go i'll try to fix it, as of now I have three tanks, a 56 gallon, a 10 gallon, and a 29 gallon, and in about two weeks I will have a 100 gallon as of right now here is what is stocked in each. 10 gallon- Angelfish and fry (dime size body) 29 gallon- two baby oscars (2 and a half inches) 56 gallon-one RTB, one RTS,1 weather loach, 3 fancy golds (to be moved when ground thawed), 5 lake minnows,2 swordtails, 3 malle guppys and finally 3 neon tetras I know the 56 has a bit more then it should, not due to me they all came with the tank from a family member she had all that PLUS about 100 more guppys (crazy fool) May I add it has double filtration. When the 100 arrives the oscars will go into that tank leaving the 29 open, so that means I have to 29 and the 56 gallon to split these fish up into, that would be more of my question. What can I put in my 29 and 56 with the list above out of the 56. I hope I made this easy to understand, I doubt it but I tried. Any help on top of what I already recived would be awsome!! Thanks A ton Angel Eel P.s Shannen you don't need to say sorry silly I asked =p Last edited by angeleel at 09-Mar-2005 12:56 Last edited by angeleel at 09-Mar-2005 15:58 |
trystianity![]() ![]() ![]() Mega Fish Posts: 1028 Kudos: 926 Votes: 49 Registered: 20-Mar-2004 ![]() | 1 angel fish - maybe if it were the only large fish in the tank 1 pleco - No. If you get it cheap at the pet shop, chances are this is a common pleco that will grow to be over a foot long, produce a horrendous amount of waste and eventually need a VERY large tank. If it is a smaller plec, maybe. 1 Red tailed shark - No. RTS should not be kept in aquariums any smaller than 55 gallons, because they get large and can be territorial. They get a lot bigger than 4". Try closer to 6 or 7" maximum. may be aggressive with the botia, wait till it starts getting big and mean. ![]() 1 red finned botia - either Botia lecontei or B. modesta. Either way they grow quite large, (6" for lecontei, 9" for modesta) and are best kept in groups of at least 4-5. You will need a big tank for them, young ones should not even be kept in a 29 gallon tank. 1 weather loach 6" - No. Too messy, will grow to a foot long. 3 fancy golds - No. You need to winter them in proper containers. Not a spare tank that you have lying around. When I had my pond, I liked to use large plastic bins (heck even a cheap kiddie pool works) that were filled with water and kept in the ba 5 lake minnows - No way! I'm in Canada, live near the Great Lakes and have done volunteer work with the conservation authority with local FW fishies. There is a good reason why these fish are usually left in the lake. Many of these "minnows" are just babies of larger fish, that will eventually reach about a foot in length, are used to fast currents and are ACTIVE. To keep these fish in your home you need to have a large indoor pond. NEVER take anything out of the wild for your tank unless you know exactly what it is (scientific name), can keep it in quarantine for a good 2 months to make sure it isn't going to infect any of your other fish with diseases/parasites, you have a tank large enough to house it, you have done your homework and know exactly how it needs to be taken care of to thrive in a home environment. Any wild fish you're collecting in Canada is also coldwater, and should never be mixed with tropical fish. Ever. Wild coldwater fish have different dietary needs and you guessed it, as they get bigger and they can fit those guppies in their mouths... There is also the conservation issue. Depending on the species of "minnow" you pulled out of the lake, a lot of local species are suffering enough as it is without being removed from their habitat at a young age. Get them back in the lake where they can grow and make their own babies one day. Keep in mind that they will die if you just toss them back in, if you need help with releasing feel free to ask.**PLEASE people, I have been seeing more and more people taking small fish out of natural cold waterways to be kept at home without doing any research on them at all! Leave them in the lakes/rivers/streams/ponds/wetlands etc. where they belong, grab a snorkel and go visit them in THEIR homes! It will be much better for both parties involved.** Ok *deep breath* [/rant] 2 large male swordtails - No. Male swords will fight, and IMO they get to be too large for a 29 gallon tank. 2 small female fry swordtail - No. they will become lunch for anything that can fit them in its mouth. ![]() 3 guppys - They will multiply but if you're not keeping them with the fish listed above then they would be fine for that 29....you said you wanted to keep them as feeders, are you going to have a breeding tank set up for them to provide a continuous food source? 5 neons - Yes. ok.....now you also said: think I may have messed up that question more then I thought, here I go i'll try to fix it, as of now I have three tanks, a 56 gallon, a 10 gallon, and a 29 gallon, and in about two weeks I will have a 100 gallon as of right now here is what is stocked in each. I'm sorry to say it, but with the tank space you have now, quite a few of those fish need to go to new homes. If you have the space and money, by all means purchase the tanks and equipment you need to keep them all. If that is too expensive and you would like to keep them, holding bins/tubs as I mentioned earlier are a cheap alternative to glass tanks. If you can't do that, please put them up for adoption at a local fish store or find other local hobbyists that would take them off your hands. 10 gallon - You need to remove that angelfish and fry ASAP. If you need to, pick up some 30 gallon bins from walmart and set one or a few up as grow-out tanks for them. 10 gallons is just WAY too small and they will stunt in it, leaving you with no saleable fry. Either put the guppies and neons into the 10, toss it, or find other fishes you would like to keep in it. Please research before you buy anything. 29 gallon - Empty when the oscars are gone into the 100. Can be used for the single adult angel, or restocked later. 56 gallon - Please decide what you want to do with this tank. If you want to keep the weather loach, dedicate this tank to the correct sort of environment it needs and stock around it. Think fast coldwater stream, with fishes like white cloud mountain minnows, hillstream loaches, etc. and a lot of current. Smooth river rocks and plants like vallisneria are nice. Get rid of the other inhabitants, sell them or whatever, but they need to find better homes. -OR- If you want to keep the RTS, build the tank around it. Think warmer water pools, slower current, fish such as tiger barbs. Get rid of the others. -OR- Red Tail Botia. Get a few more of these to make a group, I would keep at least 3 to give them a better sense of security. Build the tank around them and get rid of the others. The swordtails could be kept in the 56 gallon tank if you chose to keep the RTS or RTB. If you keep the weather loach, the swords will have to go. I have addressed the golds and lake minnows above. They need to be moved into holding tanks until the weather warms up. You simply do not have enough tank space to keep them over the next few months as they are now. It sounds like a lot of headache getting rid of all of these fish that seem fine and moving them around. Try not to take the advice the wrong way, we are really trying to save you the trouble of dealing with the problems you are almost guaranteed to face if the fish continue to be kept as they are. It's also nothing against you personally. Your taking the effort to post here shows you care more about your fish than a lot do. With a bit of work we'll have you looking at an amusement park in each of those tanks. ![]() I think we have all met those crazy relatives/friends that just toss everything into a tank with no thought put into it whatsoever. What really depresses me is that there are probably a TON of fish that didn't manage to survive very long in that kind of care and surfed the porcelain highway to make room for something else. |
angeleel![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 561 Kudos: 472 Votes: 61 Registered: 08-Feb-2005 ![]() | Wow couldn't have asked for more, well sort of ![]() I have just a few more questions, My lake minnows...I have no idea where they came from, The family member lived in Newfoundland, and Ontario, I'm in Alberta so you see the problem I have with those I dont know where they go back to I have tryed to figure this out and it was FP who told me in the first place they were lake minnows. Any more help on how I can figure out where they go would be great. As for my goldies, I have a friend who is able to put them in his grow out tanks till summer. ![]() This is going to be hard, getting rid of some fish I have had for at least two years, BUT if I have to I have to, I must say I am to blame for one fish, I bought the RTB after what was already in there My fault, If I can bring myself to it I will get rid of all of the fish and start over (in the 56) I feel bad and always did I just didnt know how to fix it..... I don't thin I have the heart to get rid of only some so I think this will be the best way is start from scratch I also think im going to have a hard time getting rid of them to an LFS there is alot of diff speices in this group they may not have the room. If you could help me on my lake minnows that would be great but if its going to be to hard to get them to a place they need to be I will keep them, I know I shouldn't but what else should I do. I also find it silly you had your defence up getting ready if I was going to flame back at you, no worries I asked the question, I'm not a jerk if they need to move they need to move, no need on fighting with the person who told me to you can't change it, I have to, I also wont say I won't do it cause there "fine" like alot of people say, Thats just cruel, so I thank you very much on helping so in depth.Your also in canada, would you like any of these fish if you have the room, you sound like you know alot about all of them maybe you keep some, if not just asking...lol...ask your friends to =p I feel so bad but if they have more room i'm ok with it. I'm worried about the loach he's picky...lol Well thanks a ton if you could get back that would be a great help!!! THANKS THANKS THANKS ![]() I'll go shed those tears now, watch them for a while...EDIT: I have no room for grow out tanks =\ I rent as well... All this comes before I get my house to of course lol Last edited by angeleel at 10-Mar-2005 13:07 |

Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 ![]() | if it is of any help go to walmart or other store of this sort that is near you. They have some very sturdy stands. I got one recently at walmart that has 4 shelves, and each shelf will hold at least 250 lbs or 113 Kilograms. This will hold a 20 gallon, and easily hold 10 gallon tanks. I know at first the stand doesn't seem to sturdy. but once you get a tank on it (start with one of the middle shelves) you will soon find it isn't going anywhere. This will help to take care of some of the fish that you can't put in the 29 with the angel. The goldies, well as much as I love them, they have to go back to the lfs and get your store credit. Now with that in mind, I am going to go and put Leslie's together before I forget or put it off again...Heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Thomas Carlyle |
