Can a silver dollar be alone or do I have to have more than one?

And do they mix with neons?

Thanks

with lots o plants maybe 20

No. In a 10 gallon tank the most neons I would put in is maybe 8, EVEN with heavy planting. They may be small but they DO need swimming space, which is definitely at a premium in a 10 gallon tank. The more plants you have, the less open swimming space you have.

Kuhli loaches are good but they need to be kept in groups of at least 3 (as do most loaches). Kuhlis will dig so they may uproot delicate stem plants. They also prefer sand or fine gravel rather than larger pebbles. They will appreciate some part of the substrate being open (free of plants) for digging and hiding.

If you would like kuhlis and neons, I would get 3 kuhli loaches and 6-8 neons depending on how diligent you are with maintenance and the quality of filtration.

Bala sharks, common plecos, irridescent sharks, all get too large for your 40 gallon tank. A lone bala shark will be very skittish. They are best kept in groups. Fish can and will stunt if kept in a tank that is too small so it is best to buy fish that you can accomodate for their entire natural lives. A bit of planning can save you a lot of headache.

If it's a common pleco it will get much too large for your 10 or even your 40.

Get 15 Neons & lots of live plants & your 10gal. tank will look very beautiful.

Sharks & Silver Dollars don't go in 10gal. tanks.

Silver dollars are schooling fish, so they don't want to be alone. They also get pretty big, and are active, so they outgrow a 40 gallon tank. While they would probably work with neons, they aren't a good choice for your tanks.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

I'm am stocking a 10 gallon aquarium and want to put many neons and I got plenty of live plants.

I would like to know how many neons I can put?

( I heard around 15-20?)

Thanks.

PS: I was wondering do Irredesent sharks mix with tetras such as neons?

I really suggest returning or trading the bala in asap, and getting something more suitable. It will be much easier to do now than when it's full grown.

Bala sharks, while they get nowhere near the size of iridescent sharks, are active shoalers that grow to 14-16" in length. The very minimum tank size for an adult (preferably a group, however) would be a 120 gallon. When they get large, they will most likely start to prey on neon tetras.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

irridescent cats can't go with your neons in your 10g, they get much too large.
