Hi Everyone,

I am getting ready to buy a new 80 gallon tank. Most tanks that I see are long, and not very high. But this particular tank that I am looking at is 120cm long x 46cm wide x 70cm high.
I love the tank, however I was concerned about doing gravel vacs, as it is so high I thought that it may be difficult to do.
I was wondering if anyone else here has a tank with simliar dimensions and if they have any problems doing routine maintanance or if anyone has any suggestions for me.

I am also trying to figure out what to stock it with. I'd love to hear everbody's ideas on stocking so, if this was your tank, what would YOU stock it with?

I already have two fish on the list:

1 x Angelfish
1x Blue Gourami

They are currently housed in a smaller tank and will be shifted over.

Thanks everyone, I'll look forward to reading your ideas.

About the gravel vac - I dont use this but you may want to look into a ugf (under gravel filter) Ive never used these but I can imagine them being pretty good for your tank

As for stocking,

2 blue gourmais
2 Angels
10 cories
6 tetras
6 tetras
1 pleco
2 rams
4 platies

I think that would be allright (but I dont know ), what fish do you like? Are you a begginner? Do you want a challenge?

good luck

UGF's are junk. You could use under gravel jets

greenmonkey51,

Now, that is an interesting concept. If you don't mind, I would like to ask you what impact this system would have on bottom feeders. Wouldn't all the food be blown off the ground?

Thanks,

I believe that yes the point of the system is to blow all the food off the ground and have the other filters get it. I dont pacticulary know what impact it would have on bottom feeders as I personally haven't put one in any tank but posting on cichlid-forum should get some answers.

A Tall tank like that would be a waste if you dont use it for tall fish!!
Heres a stocking suggestion for you:
4 Angelfish
4 Discus
4 Pictus Cats or 6 Queen Botia
or 12 Corys

Wow, sounds like a great tank. What about:
4 angels
1 blue gourami
15 cardinal, rummy nose or any other smallish, nice tetra. Not any nippy ones though, or neons.
8 panda corys
8 other corys
8 harlequin rasboras
2 blue rams

Thanks for the ideas everyone, keep em comin'!
At the moment I'm liking the blue rams, cory's and harlequin rasboras.
To answer dudes question, although this is not my first tank I am definetly a beginner and am not looking for anything too challenging at this stage!

Angels would be your best show fish for that tank since it's so tall. I would also recommend Rummynose Tetras as they are VERY tight schoolers, along with Harlequin Rasboras. A Blue Gourami should go well in there also, other than that, I would jsut stock those couple types of fish a lot...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.
