What up everyone? I'm really happy to find alot more poeple like myself who are in to oddballs! Anyways, I have two Bichirs, one Palmas and the other is some sort of Polypterus I believe. He is dark gray/silver with a few lines that scale almost the entire length of his body. I think he's really neat, but the LFS I got him from didn't know what kind he was. Also, little did I know that when I got him home and into one of my tanks (33L gallon) he only has one pectoral fin. It doesn't seem to affect him and he is very healthy and active. It makes him unique and I want him to grow into a beautiful fish...I just need some help with identification and possibly pictures? Thanks!

*Note - He is only about 2.5"-3"s long.

E-mail me at toirtis@shaw.ca and I can help you out with some photos for identification. You first bichir is not likely a Polypterus palmas ssp., unless it is a Pp. palmas polli, as the other subspecies are quite rare, and Polypterus senegalus ssp. and Polypterus bichir lapradei are very often mislabelled as 'Palmas bichirs'. As for your new one, it is probably a Polypterus senegalus senegalus.
