Is there a new way to upload pictures to the profiles that don't have any? ...Or, do we have the send the pictures to Adam still?

WOW Adam! Thanks for changing the profile setup now!
No more several-month waits to be approved! Good work!

Ummm, what about profiles that have been submitted and not approved yet? Do we have to re-submit them?

I would prefer them to be resubmitted if you still have the information. It will take me a while to do it manually to the remaining ones.

Also this new system will soon result in the opening of the Plant, Brackish and Crustacean Profiles.

I like it

I just tried the new profile submiss though, this was the response I received after step 2:

Step 1/10 complete
Scientific Name: Trichopsis pumilus

Step 2/10 complete
Invalid Filename or Filename Already Exists

What did you use as the filename? The error is pretty much self explanitory. Use a sinlge word as the filename, and if you still receive the error try another filename as the one you chose may already be in use.

I still cannot upload pics.

I"m trying to upload a couple of pictures to Ocellatus species but get "Only GIF and JPG formats are supported. File not uploaded."

Here's the 2 pictures I want to upload:

I have now completed the new xml fish profiles system.

When you view any of our freshwater or marine fish profiles, you will see that they are now in xml format. To view the new profiles in their intended format, you need Internet Explorer 5.5 or above, Netscape 6.0 or above, or Firefox 0.9 or above.

When viewing the profiles, you will notice there are alot more fields shown. These fields have always been populated in the database and used for finding similar or compatible species. They are now visible for anyone to see.

You will also notice that at the bottom of each profile there is a dropbox which will allow you to edit a particular part of the profile. Once you edit the profile a change request is created here: http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/review/

Any change requests is subject to peer review by other members of FishProfiles.com. To prevent abuse of this system a voting process is enabled. In order for a change request to be approved or rejected, a total of plus or minus 5 votes must be provided by other members. Different levels of membership have different voting levels:

Standard Memebers: Voting will add/subtract 1 point to the vote count
Premium Memebers: Voting will add/subtract 2 points to the vote count
Moderators: Voting will add/subtract 3 points to the vote count
Admins: Voting will add/subtract 4 points to the vote count

You cannot vote on your own submissions. All change requests are kept in a history file with the old information and the new information displayed side-by-side, along with the author and the voters. An example is here: http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/history/clownloach.xml

I have also made creating a new profile much easier than the old system. To create a new profile, use this page: http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/submit.asp

New profiles will also be subject to review but only by members of Premium level or above. Again, this is to prevent any potential abuse of the system.

New profiles require 6 positive votes to be approved, or 8 negative to be rejected.

All of these changes have been made to facilitate a much fater approval process for new profiles, and to increase the information and accuracy of the existing profiles.

The most important link to remember is the review directory: http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/review/
If you are interested in having input on what information is displayed on each profile, you can vote using this link.

FishProfiles.com is now in your hands.

Vudu: I got a little further in IE but I get an error after submitting a message for the picture:

"Microsoft vbscript runtime error '800a01f4'

Variable is undefined: 'Censor'

/interactive/photos/upload.asp, line 104"

I think submitting pics to existing profiles isn't working yet, I asked about this recently: [link=http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Site%20Feedback/48353.html]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Site%20Feedback/48353.html" style="COLOR: #FFFFC0[/link]

is there any chance a profile can have a flag if there are edits pending but not enough votes to make it permanent?

It seems I voted twice for one of the submissions.

Any chance for a specific "Minimum Tank Size" entry?

Found someone else was able to vote twice like lindy...http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/review/rosy.200410181046.xml.

Also...seems it's dropped one of my {3} submissions for the pictus, does it show somewhere if it was voted to be rejected .
