Please listen to DaFishMan. He is right on. Get yourself at least a ten gallon and add the guppies to it a few at a time till it is cycled. The betta would be better off in at least a two gallon, but like he says, a five would be better, and would save yourself a lot of grief in the long run. For what you are spending on seperate one gallon bowls, you could buy a nice ten gallon set up complete with filter and heater. I started out with a ten gallon with just a couple of small fish. The larger the tank, the easier it is to maintain.

I wouldn't even stick a betta in those. Too small..

Don't fool yourself, and us, ( LOL ) that the fish will be ok in said size tank for such and such a time until the UPGRADE occurs (then doesn't and the fish dies or gets stunted)

Upgrade now and spare the grief. Get a nice 10 gal to start then pick a trio of guppys or a 5 gal for your betta,
you will be glad you did and so will your fish. Larger tanks offer more stable conditions for the fish.

NO, NO, NO! A female betta, if she is still small, can go in a one gallon for a while - but should be moved to a larger home when possible. Guppies do not belong in the one gallon bowls - no filter, no heater, and no room. No, they are not going to school in seperate bowls.
Am I getting the feeling that there is a failure to communicate here?

Tanks of that size are not really suitable for any fish, even Bettas, sure they might live awhile but its really cruel, i had a mal betta in a 3gal then i moved him to a 20 gal for breeding, the difference was amazing, they really love to swim and play, all fish do.

Keeping bettas or any other fish long term in tiny tanks should be illegal.

Yes, that might work - the betta in the one gallon and the guppies in the 1.6, just be fastidious in water changes and keep both tanks out of cold drafts.

I would go with a male Betta in a tank & 3/4 male Guppy's in another tank.

Most fish need a filter and heater. You cannot get a heater for a one gallon tank. If your place stays fairly warm in winter, you can get away with a betta. Why are you adding guppies to this tank anyway? It makes no difference if they are males or females, it is too many fish.
P.S. The betta will most likely kill the guppies as they will be longed finned.

I have 5 peppered corydoras in my 29 gallon, and I wouldn't keep them in anything less than a 29 or 20 long. They're too large (even though it says they get to be the same length as a guppy, they have a larger body mass) for a tiny tank, and far too active for such a small space.

They also really need to be kept in groups - a lone cory won't be as happy, and will consequently seem "boring."

Acording to the profile a peppered cory grows to 6cm which is about the size of a guppy and I was going to get male guppies to evoided any problems with too many fry

No, I have peppered cories in one of my tanks and they get rather large, plus; they need to be kept in schools of six or more. Guppies multiply like mad and are schooling.
Please reconsider this: stick with a betta or get a larger tank.

No absolutely not.
3 Guppies will need a 10 gallon tank.
Pepper Corys are amongst the largest of cory cats,
belong in a group of 5 or more, and need a tank size of 20 gallons bare minimum.
You are very limited to what you can do in such small tanks.
Bettas are about it.
Perhaps you can purchase a larger tank if you would like a community tank.

There is not much you can do with this small a tank size. Perhaps a dwarf african frog, but only one frog per tank, or some snails. A female betta would work, but only one per tank. Exotic in a one gallon? Perhaps you can find a crown tail betta girl.
