Hello All!

I have jst finished my 10 gallon cycle and bought some new fish!

Here they are:

1: One Flame Dwarf Gourami

2: And Three Rummynose Tetras ( fireheads )

They all seem to be doing good....these fish are currently with my two cherry barbs, pleco...( common )..one snail...one gold barb! Now am going to start to "Aquascape" my Tank.

ANY ADVICE?

TIA

20 GALLON LONG CURRENTLY EMPTY ~~~~ 10 GALLON W/ STRIPPED CONVICT

Check ammonia and nitrite daily for a mini-cycle, which is not uncommon in newly cycled tanks. I do hope your ammonia and nitrite were zero and you had a good 10ppm nitrates before adding fish.

Watch for signs of disease - fuzz, spots, flashing, lesions, unusual behavior. More fish die in the first week or so, especially if they come from chain stores. It may be a good idea to hit the tank with melafix or pimafix if you have some on hand just for added assurance. Not everyone does this, but I have a habit of doing it, especially if I get my fish from a chain store. Netting creates unseen abrasions that then infect with columnaris (fuzz) or other bacteria.

Peter, I do hope you have plans to upgrade the tank with a common pleco. They get extremely large.

I still think that you should remove the gold barb and pleco from that tank. They both grow too large for a ten gallon, and barbs are almost always active fish. A fully-grown gold barb will not have enough room to move around in.
Also, add a few more rummies when you get the chance. They are schooling fish, and will benefit from a few more companions.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Remove the Pleco & the Barb (they'll get big) & add some more Rummies (they are schooling fish).

The barb really needs more like itself, so unless a larger tank is in the near future, I too would take back the plec and the barb and add 2 more rummies. Don't add anymore fish with this stock list. 10 gallons can swing into toxin city on a dime. It doesn't take much with a mini-cycle to start killing off fish in smaller tanks.
