Okay, is it just me or do alot of stores sell feeder guppies that um, are not guppies? I went to a few stores and saw several fish that were perfectly healthy and clearly not guppies:

1) Neon tetras
2) Mollys
3) Goldfish
4) A chilid (I purchased this one, see other posts)

Does anyone else find this unusual or is it just an area thing?

You found a child in a feeder fish tank and bought it? That's got to break some kind of law.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Feeder tank policy and upkeep varies by store. The shops in my area don't even allow customers access to where feeders are kept (usually a back room), and have seperate vats for each type of fish. Cross-jumping is kept to a minimum. Now, I can't speak for the neon tetras and other normal store livestock, but some places do get native fish mixed in with their shipments of feeders. Darters and other bottom dwellers seem to be common here. We aren't allowed to sell them, but they still find their way here from time to time.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

My LFSs usually have other fish in the feeder danios and the feeder shrimp tanks, but the goldfish are usually kept about 1,000 in a 30-ish gallon tank on another system so there's no room for other fish.

I've found many things in the feeder tanks. It's actually something I look forward to when I go to work. Usually it's something that got shipped in with the feeders, but at least one other time it was something misplaced (see below). Here's what I've found:

- A few sunfish
- Baby Black Bullhead
- Many Bluefin Killies
- Western Mosquitofish
- Eastern Mosquitofish
- Percula Clownfish (dead, probably some idiot customer's idea of a "prank")
- Insect larvae of countless species
- Fathead Minnows (wild coloration, not tuffies)
- Many species of snails
- Crayfish

Child? No cichlid... How would that break the law?
I also mentioned that the fish was in there and asked if I could buy it... (they dont carry any fish that look anything like it in the store)

Sorry, My spelling is horrid

Most of the stores around here keep them out, and they keep the tank tidy. I only found one store that does not do this and I don't shop there. Basically, the store I got my new fish from told me that if I wanted it, they would get it out for me (there feeder tank wasnt as populated as most) another store is just a random scoop and they try to get as close to the number of fish as you tell them ^_^ Unfortunatly this is a shame, because that is where I keep finding the neons/larger mollys (I think they are sold as feeders because they are not as colorful? I found one with a croocked spine)

Oh! And I found a crab in one (the store didnt carry crabs)....
