tweaky![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Enthusiast Posts: 286 Kudos: 164 Votes: 5 Registered: 18-Jan-2004 ![]() | Ok, im strarting to get my stocking list up and almost ready, here it is so far, well what i want 1 Butterfly fish (in tank atm) 8 Rummynose 1 RTBS 2 Electric Yellows 2 Bolivian Rams Now, im hoping all of these can sort of go together. I'm a bit worried about the rummynose's though, will they get eaten by the butterfly fish, or are they a little too big for them. Kinda new at the whole cichlid scene, so i don't know if they will suit the other tank mates. Also i want 1 centrepiece cichlid as well. And maybe that should be it for the stocking list, unless i can squeeze in a couple of other fish?? oh yeah im also running a 1200lph filter, aqua one CF1200 to be exact for my 55gal tank. cheers guys/girls |

It is my understanding that African Cichlids need to be kept in a species only tank. If I am wrong, I am sure that one of the more experienced cichlid keepers on fp will correct me and help you out with more accurate information. |

Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 ![]() | In theory this sounds like a wonderful tank, but in actuality, I'm afraid: The rummynose are going to become lunch to the electric yellows and butterfly fish. Also the water parameters of the [link=butterfly fish]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/butterfly.xm I'm sorry to say...Also the pH required for the [link=Bolivian Rams]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/bolivian.xmLike I said it would make for an awesome looking tank, but it just wouldn'twork sad to say... Since you already have the Butterfly fish, why not ask what else you could safely put in the tank with it? I'm sure someone can help with that...Best of luck, heidi michelle "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Thomas Carlyle |

You have fish from 3 different continents & so, different waters. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

African Cichlids should not be kept with your other fish. The rummynose are not at risk from the African Butterfly fish because rummys are not top swimming fish. I would suggest dropping the Yellows and going for something more suited to your tank- A south american or Asian fish- something that tolerates soft water and low ph, as your other choices are that, except for the AB fish- but I have heard they are very tolerant of soft water. You could keep the choices you have, and then add a centerpeice like a Gourami, a pair Angelfish, or even a pair of Discus, or a small group of some type of Rainbowfish. So yeah, im pretty much out of ideas, so i can't really get cichlids hey. This is so hard this time around for some reason, maybe because i want harder fish to look after ect. |

So i really want a couple of schools, 1RTBS and a centrepiece or two. |

How about some other south american cichlids? Blue Rams, Appistograma Borelli, Cockatoo Apisto? What about a Firemouth? They are awfully cool and would be great in your tank, you could even do a pair. You have lots of choice, just not in African fish. Clown Loaches do get too large for your tank- they need a 125g tank. You could get Queen Loaches- I often consider them a "small tank clown loach" they are lovely, sometimes sleep upside down, and are wonderfully personable and love a nice size school. You could put 6 in there and it would be awesome. Dont give up yet! There are tons of fish available to you! Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |
