I have recently set up a five gallon aquarium without decoration (soone to come) and had some stocking questions. The gravel is totally black along with the background and I had the idea of adding a completely albino stock list for a stunning effect. I know that I want an albino betta (or at least one that is white), yet other small albinos are few and far between. straying from my original goal I have decided to add 1-2 ADF's and maybe a dwarf gourami?????? I was wondering in particular what the two tankmates would do o one another? Also if the dwarf is not such a good idea what do you suggest to replace hime/her. I was also pondering the idea of decoration. I would like something original and catchy that did not draw too much attention away from the inhabitants of the aquarium. If you have any suggestions I am very appreciative and if anyone has any additional comments they would be taken into serious consideration. Thank you all in advance.

a five gallon is to small for what u are planning on doing. also good luck finding an albino betta, and if not a white will be hard to find unless u have friends in higher places than a lfs.

My lfs regualrly stocks white veils and sometimes white crowns (if im lucky). It seems like I keep the lfs afloat economically with all my purchases so I get dibs on everything before they put them in the tanks. Five are supposedly coming in tommorrow. The white mollies are a nice touch along with the albino cories as clean-up crew (but I do not have room for an entire shoal).

Male endlers or some male guppies. You can get guppies in a variety of colors and some of the lighter colors would look spectacular against black gravel.

Mollies, dwarf gouramis, and albino cories all get too big for a 5 gallon. 5 gallons is really tiny.... you really limit your stock with a tank that small. While guppies and endlers are good choices for fives, I'd worry about male guppies' fins with the betta. The betta might mistake the guppy for a betta with the fins, and some serious nipping and aggression could occur.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

um, i'm in a similar spot, my sis is gonna get a 5g hex and i was looking at options for her, i think we've narrowed it down to either an invert tank w/ crabs or shirmp, a bumblebee goby tank (i'd have to help quite a bit on this one), a duo or trio of killies, or a pair or trio of cherry barbs, or another fish if your interesed are the dwarf rasboras (cute lil fellers however they are somewhat $$$ and aren't a "beginner fish", ask cali bout them) and i'm using a 50watt tronic heater, and a UGF and a small bio-wheel that comes with the tank,

A betta and an ADF or two would work, even with you original idea of a white/albino tank.

Just thought you might wanna know,
1 male betta & 1 adf
or
2 female bettas (just make sure their sisters)
or
1 female betta & 2 MALE guppies (depending on aggresion)
or
1 male betta

albino cories like any cories get to big for a 5 gal, & they need at LEAT 6 albino's to keep them happy & you cant do that in a 5g.

I believe Fallout was referring to the type of blind mexican-originating tetra that have assumed a somewhat bleached color due to the absence of light in the caves in which they dwell. I also believe that I could not supply these tetras with the space that they need to shoal in a 5 gallon hexagon. Anyway I have acquired a metallic red twin/crowntail that is absolutely stunning alone in the 5 gallon. If anyone has any suggestions for potential tank-mates to accompany this fish I would be highly appreciative.

In a five gallon, with a betta (depending on aggression), you could theoretically have ADF's, snails, shrimp, perhaps a pair of cherry barbs, female guppies or the like. There's not enough room for any schooling fish, but singles or pairs would work, given that they're not going to nip on the betta or be nipped upon by the betta.
