Please explain what a paulaudrium is? Is it like an enclosed terrium or a vivarium?

Its pretty much a half land and half water setup. Sorry mispelled pauladarium however you spell it.

Heres a good link that helps explain and maybe you can help me.

1. Filter? The aquatic part of the tank should be cleaned the same way as a normal fish tank would be.

2. To count the bioload it would be the same as the tank size for the amount of water you have. If you have 10 gallons of water, treat it similar a 10 gallon tank.

3. I'm assuming you actually want some suggestions for animals that may actually live in both land and water? I believe that the newts that are commonly sold are appropriate for a tank as small as 20 gallons, but don't quote me on that since I'm not sure. Mudskippers could work in there for a while, but they eventually get pretty big and would need more room.

Racso and I have one set up In it are: a female betta, a firebelly toad, an American toad, 2 rice paddy frogs and Chester the paddle tailed fire belly newt.

On ours there is a vent on each side about 4 inches from the bottom. The filter is contained within a "rock" waterfall, and we added a shef that attaches to the glass with suction cups. The while bottom of the tank is water and the dry land is elevated.

Chester says hi

We love our set up and I think you'll enjoy yours very much as well. HTH and good luck

Shini, you are right except for one thing; you cannot treat 10 gallons of water like a ten gallon aquarium. Frogs/toads/newts/whatever give off more waste than fish. I don't know about frogs and toads, but newts can shed their skin in the water. While some will eat it, a lot will leave it in there. That is a lot of waste in a tank.

Otherwise, cleaning the tank is pretty much the same as an aquarium. You want to be careful after putting you hands in a paludarium, many amphibians can carry salmanela, so you want to wash your hands after working with them.

Have fun and enjoy. These things are really fun to work with.

Garten,

How long have you had your pauladarium(sp?) set-up? Fire Belly toads secret toxins that often kill other animals in their living space. Im curious to see if youve had any problems

Fire Belly toxin is dangerous. It can kill your toads and any animals in the same tank as it. However, as long as you clean the tank weekly and mist it daily, you should have no problems. In a 20 gallon, you could probably go with a mix of firebelly toads, firebelly newts, and even ACFs. Whites or other species of treefrogs would also go nicely in there. Most frog or salamander species could fit happily (space permitting).
The only exception I can think of are pac-man frogs. Even though they are not that big, they're entire body is one, big mouth. In fact, they are one of the few species of frogs that have TEETH (and sharp ones at that). I've read a few stories of pac-man frogs eating firebelly toads and then dying from the poision.

Wow garten, that's a nice paludarium. Mine only consists of shallow water with rocks sticking out of it; kinda ugly. Guess I should work on mine more, or perhaps go out and actually buy stuff for it.:%)

Thats my paludarium. ]:| garten

Anyway, those animals were in a different tank together for a long while. I really can't think of how long. The toads have done nothing but grow, and the fire belly is.... old.

He is seriously coming on about 6 or 7 years!!! I just realized how old Chester is. I've had him longer than Dani!
