not much touches the lower half of the tanks
n what does make it to the bottom contends with my rams, khulies, n cories
i cant even hand feed my eels anymore as my tetras have learned the trick to
its best to feed them at night
theyll smell it out

I was finally able to talk to the guy at the fish store. He said the parameters of the tank the eels were in is
ph:7.2, ammonia,nitrites:0,temp:78
And he also said that yes they do use salt in the tank. So I guess that probably explains my problem since I don't have salt in my tanks.
Thanks for all the help

find out if the store used salt
many stores do use salt n then when the eel is placed into fresh water again they usually dont fend to well

in my experience u can keep them with small amounts of salt or strictly fresh water n never introduce salt

Well when I acclimated it into the tank ,I let the bag sit in the water for 1/2 hour then I opened the bag and poured about 1/2 cup of water from the tank into the bag and let it sit for another 1/2 hour. I then opened the bag and placed a net in the bag waiting for the eel to swim into the net, took it out and placed it in the tank. I usually always quarntine new fish for about a week before I put them in my tanks, but I wasn't able to this time as I'm using my quarntine tank to treat a RTBS with a possible parasite. I can talk to the guy at the fish store and find out the parameters of their tanks.
Thanks so far for all the help

At four inches (which is pretty small), these fish tend to be somewhat fragile. My guess is that it was some kind of acclimating issue.

How did you introduce him to the tank? Do you know the store's parameters?

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Wow, this is puzzling. It had to be something internal I'm guessing. I mean if the rest of his tankmates are fine, that's all I can think of.

7 Bala sharks all about 10 inches long
6 clown loaches around 3 inches and
6 tiger barbs
There were no external wounds of any kind on the eel that I could see.

Well it seemed to be fine at the LFS. It was the largest on e in the tank about 4 inches long and its color look good. As far as any external problems I never noticed any. Like I said it seemed to be doing good in my tank and was active. Its just when I got up the next morning it was dead.

What did he look like at the LFS? Not to say this is the case, but in my experiences the Peacocks and Striped Peacocks have been the hardest to feed. I've also noticed these two have become ill in tanks where no other eels have become ill. I don't know if this just relates to the Peacocks and Striped Peacocks, or if it's just coincidence. What I'm trying to say is that with my experiences, these two types have been a bit more delicate than other eels...

Well, I broke down on the way home from work yesterday and stopped and got one. I took him home put him in the 125 and he seemed to be doing fine. I get up this morning to find him "DEAD". Any ideals on what might have been wrong?
PH:7.5,ammonia & nitrites:0, Temp.78
I also do a 20% water change in the tank once a week.

I was wondering if anyone might keep a peacock eel and could give me some good solid first hand information about them. I've read several articles about them on the internet but it's as if one article contradicts the other.

125 gallons would be awesome for him! I wouldn't recommend any smaller than 55 gallons. And yes, they are very friendly and should have no problem with those other fish as tankmates.

Most likely if I do get them they'll be going in my 125 gallon along with bala sharks, tiger barbs, and clown loaches.
Do you think they'll be okay in with these guys?

Thanks for the info guys. One of our LFS just recently got some of these guys in and I'm almost seriously considering getting 1 or 2.

I've had a pair of peacocks for the longest time. They're awesome fish. As has been stated above, COVER THE LID TIGHTLY. I like door screening.
