Algae will grow happily in a plantless tank, since there is nothing to steal its light or nutrients. Live plants, certain fish, algae scrubbers, U.V. sterilizers, and extra water changes can help a tank lose algae (Note: It totally depends on the situation); the same goes for reductions in fish food and lighting. |

In all of my loricariid tanks, I have little to no algae, and plantage is at a minimumm, if present at all. |
