Algae will grow happily in a plantless tank, since there is nothing to steal its light or nutrients. Live plants, certain fish, algae scrubbers, U.V. sterilizers, and extra water changes can help a tank lose algae (Note: It totally depends on the situation); the same goes for reductions in fish food and lighting. And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I personally think you can have more overall problems with a live plantless tank. Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. tankie Fish Addict Posts: 857 Kudos: 848 Votes: 230 Registered: 15-Mar-2005	i agree with the rest...live plants actually helps to control algae by competing with the nutirents in the tank...if u dont have any...make sure the nutirents r minimal(no overfeeding) and the light should be just around 8-10 hrs, no longer.
