I have been thinking of doing this setup for a few months now and I am interested in hearing opinions and sugggestions about it.

Tank=29 gallon
Filter=Eheim Ecco
Heater= Visitherm Stealth 200 watt
Lighting= Possible DIY Hood with CF bulbs
Substrate= EcoComplete
Lots of large plants
Red Sea CO2 Canister

Fish
3 Amazon Leaf fish /Monocirrhus polyacanthus
2 African Butterfly fish
2 Bristlenose Pleco

Feeding
I want to setup a guppy breeding tank or tanks to feed the leaf fish and buy crickets for the African Butterfly. I will use algae pellets or algae covered rocks for the bristlnose.

I am worried current requirements may be hard to meet for the fish not sure if that would work.

Also not sure if the Butterflys and Leaf fish would try to eat each other or the bristlenose.

Open to all suggestions and comments! thanks

Should be alright, although I think 2 bristlesnoses is unneeded as they aren't that active (though that's just IMO). I don't know how well ABFs reacet to one another as they are related to the territorial arowanas. But I wouldn't worry too much. You could probably have more leaf fish.

I thought the bristlenoses would help keep potential algae down or just clean up the mess that live food will make.

Does anyone no which bacterial starter works best?

I've heard bio-spira is the best. If you can find it.

How many Amazon leaf fish could I keep without the ABF vs with the ABF?

Are ABF's compatable with Amazon leaf fish?

What are good large leaf plants?

African butterfly fish would be territorial with each other, but probably not both anything else in the tank unless it looked like food. So Having more than one might not work out. I'm not totally sure about the leaf fish, but a group of them would probably be fine together.

One thing I notice about this tank is that you plan to stock with very inactive fish, and they're all pretty much the same color to boot. Perhaps a school of larger tetras would be good to add (if there's room) so there's at least some movement and color in the tank.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

Thanks for the help,

I am thinking about scrapping this idea due to price of fish and inactivity (said above). I also read that leaf fish are very hard to keep alive for a long time that coupled with availibility and pricing may rule this idea out.
