This months fish of the month are Green Spotted Puffers! They only had two left and were saying they would be fine in fresh water only wich may be true I am not totally sure but ones eye was seriously damaged, but the other was just having some small ich problems which should clear up in my tank. If your local sell you everything store has a fish of the month and its the green spotted puffer please rescue these poor fish. Any fish in the hands of the blue and white monster is poor, but there so cute I have descided to make a brackish water tank for them. So down to the big pet store picked up a 20gal long and a suitable pump and heater that were on clearence that were the perfect size (150w submersible with a thermostat for $7) and then got sand for it next door at the hardware store as suggested in the article here on FP. I am going to use my Aquaclear 150 on it and replace the 150 with my fluval 30 and a cheap kit filter for the charcoal, which may be better for the 26 because it will get the heat moved around a little. I will slowly step up the tank after it establishes at which point I am going to hunt down that. So, the delema I am having is, should I use the sponge Fluval filter and the 30gal topfin filters for the semiaggressive fish, or on the tank with the puffers in it (20gal long) I was thinknig the fluval would be nice to add a but of a current in the article on here it says a power head so i figure thats about the same thing and then the cheap filter for now till I can get a biowheel. Either way I am probably going to utilize the Aquaclear 150 for establishing the tank since I will have some delicate fish in there The bacteria will help. I will get a biowheel for the 20long after christmas. Pictures to follow |

The only way you ever stop this abuse is by using buyer discretion and not buying from shops that stock unsuitable species.Aside from contacting animal welfare agencies in severe cases of abuse the only other real power you have is to vote with your wallet and go elsewhere. Either that or some sort of smear campaign ![]() |

Really if you buy these fish and especially if you get other people to buy them then the store will think there is a demand for them. Instead of just carrying them as the fish of the month they might start selling them on a permanent basis. If that happens you just sentenced even more fish to a shortened unhappy life. |
