Say I buy all my fish from the same tank in the pet store. Would I have to q-tine them? Chances are that any disease that the old fish would get from the newcomers would have been caught already, right?

Yup. If you bought them from the same tank and have no other fish in your tank at home the QTing them is pointless.

umm. yes and no. when i get my fish from wholesale the rule is, if they are going into a tank with fishes already inside, then Yes9but only if the fish isn't looking good.)
for a new tank i don't normally Q-tine them.

in your case if the fish look like they have been at the store for awhile then then answer is no, you don't have to., but yes it is always a good idea to q-tine all fish.

Good, that was what I was thinking. I really don't have any room for an extra Q-tine tank. At least, nothing big enough to hold more than 1 sick fish.

Would it make a difference if I bought the fish at different times? Then maybe a disease could have developed between the time I bought the first fish and between the time I bought the second fish.

Also, would it make a difference if I worked at the store? I was thinking I could check the fish for disease and monitor them for weeks before I brought them home.

umm. no need to get a job at the store. simply ask them if u can look at the fish over a couple of days. and yes it would matter if u bought one,one day and then a few more the other day. if that store gets its shippment and they add fishes to that tank, with dieases, it could be transferred from the new fish and get all the other fishes sick.
p.s since we are both in New York what is the petstore. n.e way, do you need help with some great petstores. i know alot. u will have to drive out here for a few minutes. and since u live in the city, my wholesaler sells to alot of the guys in the city, his fish are in great condition. i usually go up 1 every 3-4 months.

AAA, do you have to tell everyone where I live?

And I'm not getting a job just for the fish, although employees discount is a plus. I need $$$ and it would only be natural that I would pick something like a fish store to get me started. Oh, and as for the pet stores, I sometimes go to Fishtown U.S.A. which is in the city. And there's this nice place by my uncle's (where I might be working) called Tropical Showcase.

Do you think I could skip the Q-tine process by checking on the fish in the store every few days.
