Im going to start getting fish for my 125g but since I'll be getting a lot of fish from different places I wanted to setup a QT tank for the. I have a 20g long that they can go in. But the filter isn't established. If I do water changes every 4 days I should be fine for water conditions. How long should I QT the fish for and should I do anything for treatment even if they dont show any diesease signs.

Hi,
First, I would not "cram" all the fish for a 125 tank into
"A" 20 tank, and I assume that you realize that as well.

You might want to purchase them as groups or if they are
large in size or quantity, in half groups.

The QT tank should be established as should the 125.
I'd start by taking some mulm from an established tank
and seeding the other two. I don't think you want to
cycle the 125 with your new fish and once you have the
both of them cycled then you could start the process.

IMO, I would keep the fish in the 20 for at least 2 weeks
and preferably for a month. That gives them time to get
over the stress of the move, and to be sure that there
is nothing to be treated before transfering them to the
125.

Because you are sensibly stocking the 20, there should be
no reason to change the water that often. Once a week of
20% should be fine.

I agree with frank on the times. 2-3 weeks minimum, if they look healthy @the store and you've not had problems with purchases from them in the past, and they havent been greatly stressed from transport you should be good with that time frame. If you suspect or they seem greatly stressed I'd give it a bit longer. I have some gold barbs that I brought down from Fallouts shop, we gave them a sleeping tablet to do the 24 hour transit but they still took about a month () to color up.
Cycle or Biospira are other options to getting the 20 cycled. And dont forget that if you do have an illness or need to medicate that you'll want to take steps before adding the next round.

Ok I didn't make my self clear on this as I should. The 125g is setup already and has been running for 6 months so its cycled all ready. Im going to be moving my 75g community to the 125g first. I have extra ac 300 on another tank do you think that would be to much currnet. Would bare bottom work for the substrate.
