I was at a local pet store today and I noticed they were selling "rainbow eggs" I think they were called that. They were like 50 cents. What are they. What is their purpose. THey wre very interesting looking but I have no idea why someone would buy/want one?

probably rainbow fish eggs.

but unless it stated, you wouldn't be able to tell the type of rainbows they are until big.

Rainbows will sometimes lay their eggs in spawning "mops" that are ways to collect lots of eggs and transport them easily. It can be a good way of shipping lots of eggs for a particular species without shipping the actual fish that may not survive transit due to stress or polluting their water. Eggs don't get stressed and don't pullute water, and it's much cheaper than shippping life fish with lots of heavy water. Most of the eggs will probably hatch and then someone will have a whole mess of a particular type of rainbow fish to do with as they see fit. This is apopular method with professional (or hobbyist) breeders who swap and trade spawning mops to keep their stock healthy and genetically varied.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...
