I have a 29 gallon tank. Right now it is stocked with 7 rainbows (1 Praecox, 2 turquoise, 2 bosemanii, and 2 red) and five cories. I would like to add some more rainbows. How many more could I put in there?
I want to keep it just rainbows and cories.
Also, any other recommendations on other rainbows. I definitely want to get a few more praecox.
Thanks!

Sounds like you have close to a full stock. I am not sure about the rest of your fish but I know that the bosemani rainbows get to be around 4 inches or so. I want to say that the reds do to so if you do add anything more keep it small and at the bottom.

Hi vaag,

Being totally honest I think a 29gal is too small for both the Boesmanii and the Irian (Red) rainbow. They both get to 4" easy and the Red actually a little bigger.Even the Praecox can get bigger then you'd think. And they are a very active playful fish so need a bit of extra room.

Admittedly it'll take some time to reach this size.

While Rainbows of different types will school together and may even try to breed with one another it is better both for the well being of the fish and for making a better display if kept in a school of their own kind.

Personally I'd swap out the Boesmanii and Reds for a group of 5 or 6 more Praecox. I know the other Rainbows are beauties and may be hard to lose, nut a school of happy healthy Praecox will reward you with great entertainment and color.

Of course you can always go the other way and get a much larger tank and have schools of all your Rainbows !

Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.
