I would go with a small dither fish if you intend to breed them. Make sure to include a cave and a flat rock for spawning purposes, for substrate I would use sand as some people believe they are substrate spawners. Breeding is widly debated on and ime people recommend them as cave,substrate and rock spawners and as pair or harem breeders. They need slightly acidic 6.8 ph and warmer temperature 77-80F or 25-27C. Also if you want you could look into apistogrammas as they would probably be better suited to a 10 gallon and wouldnt be too dificult to spawn. Happy Holidays!!
