Since every where i go i think of my fish, (AKA ADDICTION! lol:%) ) when i was at bed bath and beyond today i picked up a tupperware box, at first i thought for storage, but then i thought i coukd maybe do something with fish. The box is 11 x 18 x 7 in inches (approximately) and 28.3 x 45.7 x 18.3 in centimeters. It has an airtight lid and i think is about 6.3 gallons. Any ideas? I know it is an awkward size, a lot longer than it is tall, but maybe there is something...or maybe i am just crazy...:%)

By calculations, it will hold about six gallons... not a bad size at all. I like how shallow it is. Do you have pictures?

What ideas did you have kitten?
(keep in mind...it does not have to be fish, could fiddler crabs work?)

Space-wise (6g) is fine for fiddlers. They need access out of the water though...a floating island or driftwood that extends beyond the water level would work. They are great escape artists though so keep that in mind.

Another idea would be killies, although I don't have personal experience with them.

I thought that fiddlers would work well since it is not that deep and i could make a little beach!

Ooo I have that same issue >.< Everything that holds water is a chance for a fish :%)

Lots of plants, few holes drilled in the top (maybe cut a portion away for easy feeding and filtration) and female bettas !

And or ...if you havent got one yet....leave it for hospital/qtine .

Well i talked to my mom and at their school science room they have fiddler crabs, so they would be extremely easy to come by. If i did do a crab tank i was thinking to do a sloping beach look into a little "lake" (or i should say ocean...they need salt) . Do you think i should pile the sand up high to make the beach, or do you think i should make a plastic supporter so the sand won't be so deep and hard to clean? Theresa_M, do you have a picture of your crab habitat? I think i remember you having one...

plastic supporter sounds like the easiest option in respect to cleaning i think a little beach would look great. with a few sand plants on the beach for decoration. its a lovley idea well thought of!!!!!

Now about heating the container, because my room gets very cool, should i get one of those undertank reptile heaters? Or should i only heat the water? I don't like the idea of a heat lamp because i can't sleep with any light in my room...

reptile heaters sadly get quite hot..... mine melted a little of the top of my lizards tank (much to my dismay) so i dont think that would work for your contanier.... expecially if its plastic..

Ok then so do you think i should get a really small heater, or will i not need a heater? Do fiddler crabs need a heater? So would piling up the sand be a bad idea to make the gradual decline to the water? What other ideas do you guys have?

They have "junior" heaters at Walmart (they're in a box) for less than 7 bucks. It's just a preset thermostat, so you can't adjust the heat, but they seem to work okay. I had it in both a one gallon and a two gallon betta tank and it kept the water within a few degrees of where I wanted it.

You can also pick up a 25 watt heater for about 15-20 bucks... works well for tanks up to 5 gallons, haven't tried it on anything bigger.

Interesting project... eagerly following along.
