Like Shannen said way above... it depends on which of our tanks we are speaking of...

Some get changed more than once a week (guppies) and the others for the most part get changed at least once a week, which of course sometimes we do get behind on. The larger tanks sometimes are like every two weeks or so.

I've moved up to twice a week now, what with my two plecos and all. My tank is overstocked, so I'm trying to keep it very clean. I only have the one tank though, which makes things easy. I'd hate to have to do twice weekly water changes on five or more fish tanks, like many of you folks have...

Every Sunday, ALL the tanks get done.....

Always thought Sunday's were a day of rest but when you work the other 6 days and have 27 tanks doesn't leave much for "resting"...

I do however scrap the glass clean every 3 days or so...

Every 2 weeks.

Once a week is too stressful for the fish.

"Once a week is to stressful on the fish"
I disagree....
Now if you do it every two weeks you stress your fish out less often.

But fish are very adaptable they get used to once a week just as they do every other week...It's really all about the routine
Both work fine but really whats worse for the fish
More frequent water changes
or
Improper water quality?

I say the second.........And by going every two weeks you allow more room for error in that respect.

So it's not more stressful its stressed out less often.

Voted for two
Although the 10 gets weekly changes, since most of my tanks get every two weeks that wins my vote. Most of them are also planted and recieve supplimental nitrAtes however .

I thought for certain I replied to this thread but I didn't see my post. Now I know why. Well I'm gonna change my vote from the last thread to once a week on this one. That's the average of my tanks now. Twice a week on the 55g, once a week on the 30g and 29g usually, and every other week on the 20g and 10g that are barely stocked right now. But it still comes down to when I feel like it. Nothing will die if I miss a water change by a week or more.
I haven't found that more frequent or larger water changes stresses the fish at all. I'd have to say trimming or moving my plants is far more stressful than waterchanges. My yoyos fade color when I start messing with things in their tank but not during water changes and everytime my fish spawned it's been within 24hrs of water changes.

On the african community I do weekly changes -- on my South American (rams, tetras - oh and 2 bristlenose plecos) tank I do changes more like 2 times a week.

Generally I like to do them once a week, sometimes it's every two weeks if things get crazy, and occassionally it is more than once a week (]:|like this week]:|) Heidi
