1)I plan to get rid of the danios and the lone guppy. How should I catch my danios without messing up my plants and everything?.
Try to catch them at night when they are resting. The Guppy shouldn't be a problem, but the Danios are fast fish.

2)How many German Rams could I have? (don't want too much aggression).
Try to get 1 male & 2 females, but what is the one you already have?.

3)Should I increase my congo school?.
6 is a good number for schooling fish & Congo's get quite big.

4)Do I have room for a school of cories (which kind)?.
Yes, you can get a school of any type of Corydoras.

5)How many Zebra loaches could I have if I didn't get cories?.
Loaches like to be in schools aswell.

6)Could I have emperor tetras? How many should I get?.
I wouldn't get more Tetra's, as you already have the Congo.

7)I have this major problem with black hair algae growing on the edge of plant leaves. How should I solve this problem?.
Try to feed less & do more water changes & less lighting hours.

They haven't settled in yet. They swim upsidedown to eat off the surface of the water so they are considered top dwelling.

I just purchased 4 the other day (I'll get the other 3-4 later)

So far they've been hanging out towards the bottom, back corner behind driftwood and plants. I wouldn't consider them top-dwelling species.

Hi, i think the 8 upside down catfish will be a bit much, also there are alot of top water fish.

try to even out the water space.

*BUMP*

So do you think this is overstocked or not?

Would I be better off just having 1 German ram?

Well for some reason I've completely changed my mind.

I've decided to get a bunch of weird or strange behaving fish. Just to make it interesting.

My stocking list will be:

1 Farowella
6 congos
8 upside down catfish
6-8 hatchetfish
2 German Rams
2 angelfish
1 BGK
maybe I'll keep the RTBS if he gets along with the others

I'll be getting rid of the BN pleco because he never does anything. My RTBS eats more algae than him, lol. Plus I never get to see him. It just seems like a waste to keep it, especially since he puts out so much waste. (pun, ha. ha.)

Do you think this would work out OK? Is it overstocked any?
I have 160 gallons of filtration on my 90 gallon tank. (Magnum 350 and Whisper 60). I also do water changes once every 2-3 weeks. It's moderately planted now, soon to be heavily planted.

1)I plan to get rid of the danios and the lone guppy. How should I catch my danios without messing up my plants and everything?

Same as suggested, at night, with 2 nets or a net and a large ziplock/plastic bag that is clear.

2)How many German Rams could I have? (don't want too much aggression)

Up to 8 depending on whether you decide to get the corys/loaches, 4 if you get corys/loaches

3)Should I increase my congo school?

6 is a good number, they get very large.

4)Do I have room for a school of cories (which kind)?

Yes, if you only add up to 4 rams total , any kind of cory

5)How many Zebra loaches could I have if I didn't get cories?

Yes, 6

6)Could I have emperor tetras? How many should I get?

Personally I think you could have a school of 6

7)I have this major problem with black hair algae growing on the edge of plant leaves. How should I solve this problem?

Pull it off, clean your filters regularly, lessen feedings/light amount, get a couple SAE's or Florida Flag Fish to eat the algae, or get some Shrimp that eat algae

If you dont get the emperor tetras, You could have the RTBS or Rainbow Shark. I think it would be fine. I have had 2, one was aggressive (took him back) the next one is super peaceful, lives happily w/ SAE's and a Garra Cambodgiensis. (look alikes)

I dunno sham.. I've always wanted to try to keep one! If it doesn't work out then I'll take it back and you can say "I told you so", lol.

Haha, thanks fishyhelper! I'll try that for sure.

u wanna know a perfect flawless way to catch danios? get a large freezer ziplock bag, heard them with the net or your hand, they cant see the bag at all, so they swim right in without knowing it

i was trying to catch my ram pair, and saw the bag lying there, i sunk it with a rock hearded the rams in, then all my danios swam right in

The profile on here says hostile do not keep with smaller fish. It also says too intolerant of their own kind to breed in home aquaria. While I have no experience with them that doesn't sound like a fish I'd want to add to that tank. This site has mixed answers [link=http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_bicolor.php]http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_bicolor.php" style="COLOR: #C000C0[/link] but it seems most of those that have problems have peaceful community tanks while those with large or more agressive tanks keep them fine.

Hmm.. that's strange...

Well I looked it up on Google and didn't find any conflicting information... So unless someone jumps in and tells me not to do it, then I guess it'll be okay.

I had a RTBS with 2 angels, and it was the angels that bothered the shark! they did not like him one bit! he was the boss til the angels came around!

72 gallon bowfront:Tanganyikan Lake set up
75 gallon: A. Baenschi trio,Cyanotilapia Afra Cobwe(4), copadichromis trewavase, protomelas sp. tangerine tiger(breeding pair)

Sorry to bug you all again but...

Could I also get a Red Tailed Black Shark with this setup?

4 Blue Rams
1 Black Ghost Knife
1 BN pleco
6 congos
8 panda cories
2 angelfish

Then I'd add the RTBS... Is that too overstocked? Would the shark bother the angels?

Thanks very much for the help Nameless and sham.

based on your advice I'm going to get:

2 more Congos
6-8 Cories
3 more Blue Rams (so I can have 2 pairs. My current Ram is a male)

And I think I'm going to use a phosphate remover. I believe too much phosphate is the problem with my hair algae because I have a well, and my dad sometimes uses fertilizers. That link helped a lot, thanks.

2. You can easily do 2 males and 2 females
3. I would do 8 congos. I had 8 in a 55g with no other schooling fish and they were fine. In my 90g I plan on about 10
4.Your bottom level doesn't look stocked at all. I think you could fit a school of cories just fine.
5. I'd do 6 loaches.. maybe 7 or 8 depending how stocked the tank looked
6. black emperors (Nematobrycon palmeri) are actually not schooling fish and would be fine in a pair or trio. They will not school but will travel around the aquarium in groups of no more than 3 but often singly.
7.black hair algae isn't an oto favorite. Try this article [link=http://otocinclus.com/articles/algae.html]http://otocinclus.com/articles/algae.html" style="COLOR: #C00000[/link]

Sexing blue rams is actually not all that difficult and they can be sexed at around 3 months of age.

Male Blue Rams have an elongated third "spike" on the front of their dorsal fins. They usually have a solid black spot on their sides while females may have blue spangles throughout it. A few little details. Also, female blue rams will have a pink-purple belly most of the time, males do too, but not as often as females and it's not as bright.

Now to help answer your questions...

1) like said above, catch them at night.

2)you could have about 3 pairs. (I plan on having 2 pairs in my 55 gallon)

3)Congos get big, but if you want you might be able to increase it to 8.

4)you have room for a school of 8-10 cory's probably. Any kind is good, but I like Schwartzi's.

5)probably 6 Zebra loaches if not cory's

6)Emporor Tetras are cool and I think you could fit in about 10, but too many schooling fish seem to make a mess of a tank.

7)I think ottos eat hair algae. Get a school of 6-8 of them. Or keep the tank lights off for a few days.

Hope that helps a bit

Well, it's quite difficult to tell the sexes of Rams & alot of threads has been written on this forum. I think that the maels dorsal fin is longer but it's better to ask this question in the Cichlid Forum & you'll get better answers there.

Thanks so much!

Especially that tip about catching them at night, that should help a lot.

I'm not sure what gender my current Ram is, but I think it's male (Bright colors). How can you tell the deference?

Please scroll to bottom and read *New Question*, Thanks!

Here's my 90 gallon tank:
7 zebra danios
6 congo tetras
1 BN pleco
1 female guppy
2 Angels
1 German Ram
1 Black ghost knife

1)I plan to get rid of the danios and the lone guppy. How should I catch my danios without messing up my plants and everything?

2)How many German Rams could I have? (don't want too much aggression)

3)Should I increase my congo school?

4)Do I have room for a school of cories (which kind)?

5)How many Zebra loaches could I have if I didn't get cories?

6)Could I have emperor tetras? How many should I get?

7)I have this major problem with black hair algae growing on the edge of plant leaves. How should I solve this problem?

Thanks in advance for taking the time out to answer any of my questions!
