After the debacle of the wipeout I suffered thanks to the water company dumping a nice cocktail of surplus treatment chemicals down my pipes, I'm ready, along with my surviving Pandas, to start up the breeding frolics again.

One good outcome of all this, however, has been that the snails that were infesting the breeding aquarium have now long since gone to the great pond in the sky. Which means I won't be losing future eggs to hungry snails.

Pics of freshly water changed and gravel vac'ed aquaria will follow in due course.

Here's hoping that this time round, I can start producing fry in some numbers without them being wiped out by idiots at the water company ...

Why not try and breed a few colderwater loricariids as well?

Farlowella and other stick cats (rhines, pseudoheims, sturios, etc) would be a nice start .

Good luck at least it sounds like you found the cause of all those deaths.

I also wonder what that water done to your health, I dont think it would be any good for young children either.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

Keith, given that it's taken me six weeks to shrug off a case of flu that in the past I would have overcome in less than two, I think that the water had something to do with my being in a less than delightful state of health too.

Oh, and pics are now taken. Will upload them to Webshots in due course.

Meanwhile, if I could find some of those exotic Loricariids, without breaking the bank, I might give it a try.

Sorry to hear about your fish Cali and glad you're feeling better

Can I ask, what kind of snails ate the fish eggs ?

Re Snails: I ended up with an infestation of Ramshorns and pond snails that I think were introduced courtesy of a batch of Hornwort that hadn't been properly disinfected. Which promptly multiplied like mad. However, after the less than delightful 'accident', the population went into stasis, as if the treatment chemicals from the water company knocked out the snails' ability to reproduce. So, one big water change and a small dose of copper later (which I could now introduce because there were no fish in there) they were all gone.

Now I'm on the lookout for anyone who wants a temporary home for some tropical fish over the holiday period so I can keep the breeding aquarium cycled while I plan my forthcoming breeding programme

Thanks for the info Cali. I hear you on those snails, what a pain. Have in my 10, my 5g hex and and even breeding in my bare water aging tank !

All 3 will be FIXED shortly and any plants I want to save from there will be dipped in PP. Knock on wood I don't see in invasion in the 40g.

Well with the snails out of the way, your breeding project should be better then before, so good luck

I am getting some brigs soon for free.
Would they leave eggs alone ?

Glad to hear that you are going to start up your panda breeding again. It must have been so heartbreaking to loose them. Please keep us posted on your progress. Also of the name of your new femme fatal.

Breeding Aquarium Ready To Receive The Honeymoon Couple

Panda Fun Palace™ Back To Normal-ish

Oh, the weird vertical lines in the last pic have a simple explanation. They're due to the piece of string attached to my Heath Robinson Tubifex feeder - the lead weight I've taken to using in order to feed freeze-dried Tubifex to my Pandas. The Otocinclus like them too
