If I remove a large Angel (bigger than silver dollar) from my 46 gallon planted tank how many small tetras (cardinals) would I be able to put in to equal the waste production of the Angel.

10-12 Tetras would equal the same waste production and space requirements as a single adult angel 6" or larger.

Like sneaky said I'd start with a small school of 10/12 then after a few weeks check how your nitrAtes are doing. If it seems everyone has enough swimming room, and your nitrAtes are in range you can likely add more.
One angel no matter what the waste production is going to need a lot more manuvering room than cards that would produce the same ammount of waste therefore you may be able to add more.
Hope that made sense :%) .

Yes it does. I have a hugh bully Angel that I've finally decided to let go. I'm going to find a good home for him.

I stick with larger schools and nothing bigger than a bolivian or keyhole ram in my 46g.

By the way I know Angels like tall tanks. What do you think is a good tank for the angel and a few other fish.

An Adult Angel and a couple other hardy fish around 2-3 inches, say like a school of corys, or a pair of USD cats, or a cool pleco, would do well in any tank 25G and 18" tall or higher. A 29 would be even better.
I dont know about where u live, but around here, they sell a 38G tank, that has the same footprint as a 29g, but is 9G taller (couple inches).
That would be an exceptional tank for a large Angel and a few buddies, and wouldnt take up much room.

Yes, i say 10 small Tetra's would take the place of an adult Angel.
A 29gal. would be fine for 1 Angel & a few small tankmates.

Thanks for the advice. I'm in the New York area, so I'll have to start looking for a 29g or if they have tha 38g high.
