Pity Bayoubuddy isn't here at the moment ... the antics of his chipokae that he's related in the chat room are a legend ...

I have enough entertainment with so-called "normal" Panda Cory frolics. If they ever take it upon themselves to set up an underwater skiffle band, then I'll know the world has truly gone mad

I have a female convict that is a bit of a snail hunter. She uses the pick it up bash it/ shack the crap out of it technique. Once I realized that she would eat them I went out and bought some for her. As so I put them he she went on a rampage busting them off the sides of the glass. It was quite funny to watch her.

our texas took it upon herself to destroy the filter intake

and then proceeded to hide the evidence. But now, since its summer, she gets a nice supply of live cockroaches (we don't use sprays or poisons because of the ferrets).

Course, with all this live food, she's become a little agressive

Heck LightBright I've given up on the floating type thermometers those are just begging to be destroyed I get the sticky kind that stick on the outside of the tank, and all seems perfectly fine, and there isn't a thermometer to worry about the "idiots" trying to eat/attack/kill/spawn/etc with...

But, I did have a betta who was always trying to spawn with the heater in his tank things finally got too hot for himand his "mate" won the mating battle :#(

I have a heater guard too. I also used clear contact paper over the thermometer in case she broke the glass. This is the third thermometer in a year.

I've heard so many places that Synos "squeak" but I have still yet to hear a peep out of mine. Other thank that, the cichlids make quite a rucous at night trying to see who can jump the highest.

If you want to freak other people out, get a White's Dumpy Treefrog. Bud's scared so many people by his sudden croaking that people have refused to sleep on my couch. (Not such a bad thing)

Wanna watch that LB, my frog did it with his back legs, I thought it was just annoying, until the day he broke the heater. Now I have the heater fully guarded so he can't do it any more!!

My frong loves to zoom round the tank at night, kicking gravel. It's sooo cute.

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions

My albino frogs made high pitched croaking noises certain times at night when they lived alone. After I housed them with fish they stopped and soon past away.

I have been sitting in my room for the last four hours doing homework and every so often i thought i heard a rasping noise coming from my aquarium. I convinced myself i was going crazy and tried to forget about it. But the noise kept happening. So then it happened for like the 15th time and even though the lights were off i noticed my big paradise fish in the corner and he was up to something.

Well i looked closer, he was taking good size snails, i would say about 14 inch in diameter, smashing them against the glass, and then sucking the snail out from the inside of the shell! I could not believe my eyes, i though i was going crazy. But then i realized that there were empty shells all over the bottom of my tank...i had no idea paradise fish did this. Could he break the glass (i am guessing he could not) maybe...and do these guys normally do this? Anyone else have any other crazy noise stories.

Wow, i really scared myself, i was like what is going on!

yes but he is definately not the only labyrinthe to do so. my betta also hunts my ramshorn tho i dont think he's worked as hard as urs. tho i think the smartest ones in that tank are my cories. when my betta tries to intimidate them away, they merely go upto him and give him a kiss. a true community tank i have.

I'm glad you figured out what it was, strange noises like this tend to keep me up at night trying to figure out what is wrong:%)

My cichlids used to pick up the gravel and move it from one side of the tank to the other, spitting it where they felt it belongedor at each other

My clown loaches love snails and I hear the cracking now and again...

The Goldies and Cichlids used to jump and splash in the tank, always scared me enough to wake me up...

I've heard repeatedly my albinos running/swimming to fast and crashing into the other end of the tank:%)yes they are insane...

The longer you have fish the more strangeness you will get accustomed to:%) heidi

First off, the only molluscs I know with 14 inch shells are Queen Conches and Tridachna clams ... and they're marine.

Second, never underestimate the intelligence of fish. Yet again, another example of the falsity of the "fish have a three second attention span" myth. Nice piece of reasoning on the part of your Paradise Fish ... "Hmm, snail shell is hard, how do I open it? Hmm, this glass is hard ... hmm, pick up shell, bash it against glass ... yep, that breaks it! Snail for tea ..."

I suspect someone will one day film various fishes doing this with snails against rocks in the wild. Which means that said fishes will in effect be tool users. And tool usage is regarded among biologists as a sign that the creature concerned is pretty smart.

Are you sure those snails were fourteen inches in diameter?
