I am doing an experiment in my Science class involving freshwater or saltwater specimens.
My Ideas were:
SALTWATER
Hermitcrabs
Fiddlercrabs
FRESHWATER
Snails
possible Dwarf African Frogs

I need an idea for an experiment not using food for the saltwater specimens
ideas already were:
how do they react to ________________________ (not sure about what to put in the blank thats where i need help)

PLEASE HELP

With snails, I think it's be interesting to look at a population graph - put the same number of snails in identical containers but feed the first tank one pellet per day, the second two, etc. The additional food will allow for the survival of additional snails and the population will increase (you should probably count them based on a certain shell size, ie how many snails are there in the tank which are .5" long?), but at what point will the pollution caused by the food curtail population growth? Could make for some very interesting charts, and of course you'd take nitrate readings as well as shell numbers.

OH YEAH , I forgot I have a very picky science teacher and need to perform trials for a week. So it would have to involve trials.

Really sorry,

What do you mean by trials, exactly? Trials of what?

Light and Dark, exposure to too much light, not enought light, or no light.

I've got a fever... and the only prescription... is more cowbell!

Trials meaning each day test something

Right - so test nitrates, check number of snails, maybe phosphates.

so my problem could be
How does the population of snails change the level of nitrates in a small aquarium?

But how do you test nitrates
and what kind of pelets do snails eat?

There maybe special snail food, but dropping in an algae wafer or shrimp pellets would be something you could control. I think most snails will eat just about anything.

well you could test for several things.
the impact of food availability and pollution on population size and growth.

depending on what type f experiment this has to be u could even test different species of snails to determine hardiness and water parameter range. (i.e. some species of snails can tolerate minimal pollution where as others can withstand extremely high and dangerous levels of pollution.)

I would like to see an experiment on stunting. Get 2 3 inch Oscars put one in a 55 and the other in a 29. See what the effects are.

I'm guessing that the one in the 55 will grow faster.

I've thought about doing this just to see what I get. But at my house tank realistate is at a premium.

You could test for nitrates on a daily basis to keep your teacher happy.

Given the expense of this I doubt anyone here will test this. Just my 2 cents.

Oh yes fishrneat revealed in chat that the experiment must occur within a week. that greatly limits all population and growth of most multicellular organisms.
